Both roles are essential in the e-commerce industry and require strong writing skills and understanding of online sales strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ecommerce copywriter?

To thrive as an Ecommerce Copywriter, you need excellent writing skills, a strong understanding of SEO, and knowledge of digital marketing principles, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), keyword research tools, and analytics platforms is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for producing persuasive, search-optimized content that drives traffic, engages customers, and increases online sales.

How does an ecommerce copywriter typically collaborate with other teams to create effective product listings?

Ecommerce Copywriters often work closely with product managers, marketing teams, and designers to craft compelling and accurate product descriptions. They gather key product details and unique selling points from product managers, align messaging with broader marketing campaigns, and ensure consistency with visual assets provided by designers. Regular communication and feedback loops are essential to ensure that copy meets brand standards, SEO requirements, and resonates with the target audience. This collaborative approach helps maximize conversions and build a cohesive brand experience across all channels.

Job description

  • Location: Remote / Virtual
  • Job Type: Full-Time

At HireHawk, we connect top global talent with highperforming U.S. companies. Our focus is on finding exceptional professionals who bring both expertise and drive to every role. We're passionate about helping candidates grow their careers while supporting our clients with reliable, remote-ready talent that makes an impact from day one.

This role is for a strategic, hands-on e-commerce leader who can take full ownership of our Shopify site and build the digital commerce function from the ground up. You'll partner closely with the Founder, auditing what exists today, defining what "great" looks like, and executing the roadmap to get us there. The first phase is not about throwing money at ads, it's about fixing fundamentals: site experience, analytics, merchandising, conversion, and operations. As the foundation strengthens, you'll help us scale into paid media and CRM thoughtfully, and build the right team and partner bench over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end Shopify experience, from backend operations to the storefront experience and on-site performance
  • Audit the current site, identify the highest-impact fixes, and turn them into a clear 30/60/90-day execution plan
  • Improve conversion rate and revenue per visitor through CRO, funnel analysis, and disciplined experimentation
  • Elevate on-site merchandising (collections, product pages, navigation, search, promotions) to increase AOV and conversion
  • Build reliable analytics and reporting that make performance clear (what's working, what's not, and why)
  • Create and manage a promotional and merchandising calendar that supports revenue goals without eroding brand value
  • Improve catalog and inventory hygiene (product data, tags, collections, and operational accuracy)
  • Manage cross-functional execution with designers, developers, copywriters, photographers/content teams, and other partners
  • Vet, hire, and manage freelancers and agencies as needed - and build scalable processes as the function grows
  • Define and track the KPIs that matter most for a profitable, scalable DTC channel

Requirements

Must-Have:

  • 5+ years of e-commerce experience, with clear ownership of site performance and revenue outcomes
  • Strong Shopify expertise (admin, catalog management, configurations, and third-party app/integration oversight)
  • Proven ability to improve conversion through CRO, merchandising, and checkout/funnel optimization
  • Strong analytics instincts: you know how to set up reporting, interpret behavior, and prioritize what moves the needle
  • Experience working cross-functionally with creative and technical partners (design, dev, copy, photo/content, media/CRM)
  • Comfortable operating in lean, entrepreneurial environments where you lead and execute (especially in the early stages)
  • Experience reporting directly to founders
  • Fashion/apparel DTC experience with ownership of a brand site or meaningful revenue responsibility
  • Based in Canada, with the ability to overlap working hours with North American time zones

Nice to Have:

  • Experience rebuilding or modernizing an under-optimized Shopify store (especially mobile experience and conversion infrastructure)
  • CRM/email experience (strategy, segmentation, lifecycle flows) and/or experience scaling paid media after foundations are in place
  • Familiarity with AI tools that support creative workflows, photography enhancement, or digital merchandising

Benefits

  • Access to a $200K+ perk marketplace with discounts on 150+ global services.
  • Option to withdraw up to 50% of approved earnings before payday.
