About This Role

Floaters provide part-time support to teachers both in the classroom and on the playground. They actively engage with children through play and supervision, contributing to a nurturing and safe environment. Floaters may work in multiple classrooms as needed, moving between rooms during the day or staying in a single room for an extended period. They provide coverage for teacher breaks, monthly staff meetings, when a teacher is absent and other times when teachers need to be away from the classroom. Floaters report to the director and work closely with classroom teachers to support the needs of the school.

What You'll Do
Child Supervision and Engagement
  • Actively engage with children through play, conversation, and exploration
  • Assist in conflict resolution and mediate when necessary
  • Monitor classrooms and playgrounds for potential hazards and address them promptly
  • Provide supervision and support during staff meetings (once a month) when children are present
  • Provide coverage for teacher breaks and other classroom needs
  • Help maintain a calm, nurturing, and positive environment

Indoor Tasks
  • Refill water bottles, sweep floors, and clean tables
  • Set out and put away snacks and lunch
  • Assist children during nap time by patting backs and maintaining a quiet atmosphere
  • Monitor bathrooms and support hygiene practices, including assisting with diaper changes when necessary
  • Apply sunscreen and bug spray throughout the day as needed
  • Help prepare classrooms and organize materials as needed

Outdoor Tasks
  • Organize and store outdoor materials
  • Remind children of safety practices and playground expectations
  • Intervene in unsafe behaviors to ensure a secure play environment
  • Ensure the outdoor area remains safe and suitable for exploration and play
  • Support teachers during outdoor play and transition

Requirements
  • At least on year working in ECE
  • A high school diploma (or equivalent) level of education
  • Current Fingerprint Clearance card
  • Is eligible to work in the United States

Nice To Haves
  • Experience in Reggio, Montessori, or Waldorf settings
  • Interest in learning and growing within the field of ECE
