Job Title: ECE Instructor


Position Summary


The Instructors in the Early Childhood Education Program shall be appointed by the ECE ProgramManagerof Western Community College upon the recommendation of the President and the Dean of Programs. The salary and terms of employment shall be fixed by the Dean upon the recommendation of the President. This position reports to the ECE Program Coordinator orasdesignatedby the President.


Responsibilities


Primary duties are course instruction in both face-to-face and virtual class formats.

In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the general facultyhandbookor employment contract, the Early Childhood Education Instructor will:

  • Teach within the Early Childhood Education courses as scheduled.
  • Assess all assignments and promptly post grades for exams and assignments on the College database, keeping all grades confidential.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and administration as needed.
  • Review and revise common syllabi for courses taught each semester based on feedback from other instructors,studentsand the Program Coordinator.
  • Assistwith course revisions, including rubrics for major assignments, final assessments, selection oftextbooksand other resource materials asrequested.
  • Assistin writing and revision of program-related handbooks as needed.
  • Advise potential ECE students on enrollment requirements.
  • Monitor andmaintainportions of ECE AlumnieSite.
  • Participate inECEAdvisory Committee.
  • Attendexternal ECE meetings asrequested.
  • Co-facilitate orientation meetings for Practicum Host Site staff, in conjunction with the ECE Program Coordinator as requested.
  • Co-facilitate orientation meetings for students prior to their practicum experiences, in conjunction with the ECE Program Coordinator as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ECE Program Coordinator, the Dean of Programs, or asdesignatedby the President.


Requirements


Competencies:

To be successful in therole, candidates need todemonstratethe following competencies/skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to evaluate student progress fairly and supportively.
  • Comfort with digital tools and online learning platforms (e.g., Moodle, MS Teams) is an asset.
  • Willingness to teach in multiple instructional formats and settings.


Education and Experience:


Successful candidates will have the following as a minimum:

  • Minimally a diploma in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Care and Education and two (2) years of full-time work experience within an Early Childhood setting.

OR

  • Ten (10) years of full-time work experience within the Early Childhood Field.

AND

  • Memberin good standing with the ECE Registry.
  • Follow the Code of Ethics as outlined by the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC).
  • Available to teach at multiple campuses
  • Able to periodically travel between Surrey and Abbotsford for other non-teaching-related responsibilities such as meetings.
  • Flexibility to teach evening/weekend classes as assigned.
  • Sound computer proficiency isrequired, especially in Microsoft 365,PowerPoint,and database input for grading.
  • Experience teaching online and in-person classes.
  • Proficiencyin using various platforms and tools, such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) and MS Teams,fordelivering online content, managing classes, and interacting with students.

End Date: May 30, 2027

Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM
