Toole Design Group in Minneapolis, MN is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Project Engineer. Do you have a strong background in civil engineering with roadway/corridor design or traffic engineering? Are you passionate about creating quality construction documents? Do you believe an auto-centric approach is outdated? Are you looking for the opportunity to work on challenging multimodal projects that make communities more livable? Would you like to work for a firm that is committed to the well-being of its employees? If so, please consider joining our Minneapolis team.

This engineering position with a focus on roadway design and active transportation design, earns a competitive salary and great benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement, a health savings account (HSA), and a flexible spending account (FSA). All staff receive 8 holidays and earn at least 16 days of PTO over the course of the year. We practice what we preach and ensure that our employees also have access to transportation by providing them with financial incentives to bike, walk, or use transit for a better quality of life.

About Toole Design

Toole Design is the leading engineering, planning, and landscape architecture firm specializing in multimodal transportation. Since our start in 2003 as a single office in Maryland, we have expanded throughout the United States. Our talented team of planners, landscape architects and engineers are committed to delivering quality work that meets the needs of all people, regardless of age, ability, race or gender. As an Engineering News-Record top 500 design firm, we have also been named a "best firm to work for" and have one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the industry.

Every project our employees deliver directly and positively affects our communities. We are industry-leading experts, and we work hard to encourage a collaborative and team-oriented environment.

A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer

If you are on the civil design track, you'll be part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will manage tasks on projects from concept development, design review, bid package development, permitting, and construction management. You will help develop construction documents; and work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.

If you're on the transportation design track, you'll assist in the creation of signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic, and traffic signal plans for roadway projects and streetscapes in urban settings. You will use programs such as Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, MicroStation, and AutoCAD to fulfill production work on your projects. You'll use state of the art tools and practices to help create sustainable multimodal transportation networks. You'll also have the opportunity to work on a wide spectrum of projects that inform your design work, including road diet analyses, multimodal traffic studies for new development, roundabout studies, trail/roadway intersection studies and designs, and parking studies and design guidance.

Work Schedule for a Project Engineer

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home up to 2 days per week. Toole Design's Minneapolis office is conveniently located downtown at 212 3rd Avenue N, near to the Mississippi River and Cedar Lake bike trail systems and walking distance from Metro Blue, Green, Orange, and C line Stations. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.

At Toole Design, we have a collaborative culture where people of all backgrounds come together to share ideas and build better, more inclusive communities. We encourage everyone, including those from underrepresented communities - women, people of color, LGBTQIA+, immigrants, first-generation college students/graduates, those with disabilities and people at all the intersections in between - to apply. Even if you don't think your current skill set checks every box below, but this role seems to align with your strengths, we want to hear from you.

We're proud that about half of our managers are women and are committed to achieving diversity in our leadership to better represent the communities where we work, as well. Toole Design is a woman-owned business and an equal opportunity employer (EO/AA/VEV/Disabled employer).
