What is EA Engineering?

EA Engineering typically refers to environmental engineering services provided by firms such as EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Environmental engineers focus on solving issues related to air, water, and soil pollution, waste management, and environmental compliance. They assess environmental impact, develop remediation plans, and help organizations comply with environmental regulations. Their work ensures public health and environmental protection while supporting sustainable development.

What are some typical challenges encountered by professionals working in an EA Engineering role, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in EA Engineering roles often face challenges such as balancing project deadlines with regulatory compliance, coordinating across multidisciplinary teams, and effectively communicating technical findings to non-technical stakeholders. Addressing these challenges requires strong project management skills, adaptability, and proactive communication. Many EA engineers find success by building collaborative relationships within teams, participating in ongoing training, and staying informed about the latest environmental regulations and best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an environmental engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Environmental Engineer, you need a solid background in environmental science, engineering principles, and regulatory compliance, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. Familiarity with GIS software, environmental modeling tools, and certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) are often required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you excel in multidisciplinary teams and client interactions. These competencies enable you to design sustainable solutions and ensure projects meet environmental standards and client expectations.

Job description

Job Summary:
RIT Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Senior System Architect to serve as the Technical Design Authority responsible for bridging the gap between Enterprise Architecture strategy and engineering delivery. This role involves leading the modernization of legacy Rail Transportation systems into a cloud-native architecture, ensuring architectural integrity throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
• Conceptual-to-Technical Bridge: Act as the primary translator between EA strategy and engineering. Convert high-level business capabilities into detailed technical specifications for microservices, integration patterns, and cloud-native architectures.
• Modernization Leadership: Lead the technical design and execution for replacing legacy Rail Transportation systems (Mainframe/TPF) with modern, scalable Java and Spring Boot microservices.
• API & Integration Strategy: Design and govern robust API contracts and integration patterns to facilitate seamless, real-time communication across heterogeneous, multi-domain environments.
• Engineering Oversight: Maintain deep visibility into the full engineering lifecycle. Partner directly with development teams to ensure implementation adheres to architectural standards for reusability, scalability, and performance.
• Framework Implementation: Ground all application and system designs in industry-standard frameworks, including TOGAF, BizBok, and DAMA (DMBok), ensuring alignment with enterprise data and business standards.
• Agile Governance: Provide technical leadership within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment, aligning the "Architectural Runway" with Program Increment (PI) planning and continuous delivery.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 15+ years of progressive IT experience
• At least 10 years of dedicated technology/system architecture experience
• Required experience defining and implementing technology solutions for rail transportation or large-scale logistics companies
• Proven track record of migrating IBM Mainframe/TPF workloads to Event-Driven Architectures (EDA)
• Expert-level knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, Kafka/Kinesis, and Cloud-native patterns (AWS/Azure)
• 5+ years of active experience practicing within SAFe
• Working knowledge of TOGAF, BizBok, and DMBok
• Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and influence C-level stakeholders through clear, technical blueprints
