General Description

The Clinical Therapist – EMDR Specialist is a licensed mental health professional responsible for delivering trauma-focused therapy using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to clients enrolled in all levels of care within Victory Bay. This position is dedicated to providing targeted, evidence-based trauma treatment across diagnostic categories including, but not limited to, mood disorders, substance use disorders, PTSD, and complex trauma presentations.

Tasks & Responsibilities

A. Essential Duties

  • Provide structured 90-minute EMDR sessions to clients across all programs, including those in mental health, substance use, and dual diagnosis tracks.
  • Conduct clinical assessments to determine EMDR readiness and appropriateness, including resourcing and stabilization work.
  • Develop and maintain EMDR-specific treatment plans and progress notes in accordance with clinical guidelines and best practices.
  • Collaborate with primary therapists, case managers, and psychiatric providers to align trauma work with overall treatment objectives.
  • Apply phase-oriented EMDR therapy (e.g., preparation, desensitization, installation, and body scan) consistent with current standards and research.
  • Use adjunctive techniques as needed to support stabilization, including grounding, affect regulation, and cognitive coping strategies.
  • Complete timely, accurate, and clinically sound documentation of all EMDR sessions and related interventions.
  • Participate in weekly treatment team meetings to provide trauma-related insights and clinical updates on EMDR clients.
  • Offer consultation to team members regarding trauma symptomatology, treatment timing, and client readiness for EMDR.
  • Maintain EMDR certification or training status in good standing through ongoing education and consultation.
  • Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in trauma treatment, dissociation, and complex PTSD.
  • Recognize and manage trauma-related crises during or outside of EMDR sessions, utilizing de-escalation and appropriate clinical protocols.
  • Ensure safe closure of EMDR sessions, including appropriate resourcing and containment.

B. Additional Duties

  • Assists and covers other staff when necessary to maintain high productivity and efficiency in the department.
  • As the company continues to grow, additional responsibilities that are essential for the department to be successful will be assigned accordingly.

  • Clinical Therapists’ performance will be evaluated on several competencies including but not limited to:

  • Complete 20 – 30 direct client services per week.
  • Average rating of 4.3 of 5 or higher on client satisfaction surveys.
  • Documentation completed within 48 hours of event occurrence.
  • Chart audit scores at or above 3.5% of 5% each quarter.
  • Appropriate documentation of and adherence to processes related to higher level of care recommendations and high-risk reporting.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate License required (LAMFT, LAC, LSW), full licensed preferred  
  • Fully trained in EMDR through EMDRIA; Certification preferred

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience providing clinical services in the field of mental health; experience and training in at least 1 evidenced-based practice. (EMDR, DBT, CT, etc)
  • 2+ years of experience providing EMDR services in the field of mental health
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.
