BASEHOR-LINWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT EARLY LEARNING CENTER
High Quality Inclusive Early Learning Cultivating Kindergarten Readiness for The Basehor- Linwood Community
MISSION: The Basehor-Linwood Early Learning Center is committed to supporting children, families, and staff in a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate educational environment through quality, comprehensive programming and community relationships.
POSITION: Child Care Substitute Teacher
DESCRIPTION: The Child Care staff member is responsible for maintaining a developmentally appropriate program providing general oversight to the Child Care Classroom of the Basehor- Linwood Early Learning Center (ELC).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Monitors and supports classroom activities on a daily basis
  2. Works with the lead classroom teacher in the development and the adoption of research-based curriculum materials and resources that are developmentally appropriate
  3. Implements a model early learning program which encompasses the whole child to include activities that create a well-balanced cognitive as well as social/emotional curriculum
  4. Ensures all state regulations are adhered to concerning children
  5. Be an active listener and maintain a cooperative professional relationship with all stakeholders
  6. Protects and enhances the safety of the children and sta? of the Child Care Director at the ELC
  7. Maintains an inviting physical environment which fosters optimal growth and development, where each child feels respected and capable of learning
  8. Basic classroom management skills
  9. Reports classroom needs to the lead classroom teacher
  10. Performs all other duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Meet the requirements of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for a child care staff
  • Five sessions of observation for not less than 2 ยฝ consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers.1 year teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or
  • Seven to nine semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education; and three months teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; or
  • A child development associate credential

  2. Demonstrated knowledge of methods of e?ective instruction
  3. Desire and ability to work with children and sta?
  4. A willingness to cooperate with and follow the directions of the Child Care Center Director
  5. The ability and willingness to communicate with parents
  6. Excellent communication skills, enthusiasm for teaching children, and basic knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
