How much do dynamic suspension jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average yearly pay for dynamic suspension in the United States is $53,087.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $42,000.00 and $63,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Dynamic Suspension systems and how do they work?

Dynamic suspension systems are advanced vehicle suspension setups that automatically adjust damping and ride characteristics in real-time based on driving conditions, speed, and road surface. Using sensors and electronic controls, these systems optimize comfort, handling, and stability by modifying the stiffness or damping force of the suspension components. They are commonly found in modern luxury and performance vehicles and are especially beneficial for improving ride quality and vehicle safety.

What is the difference between Dynamic Suspension vs Shock Absorbers?

FeatureDynamic SuspensionShock Absorbers
FunctionProvides adaptive, real-time adjustment to vehicle suspension for optimal ride quality and handlingAbsorbs and dampens shock impulses from the road to improve ride comfort
ComplexityMore advanced, often electronically controlledSimple mechanical or hydraulic components
Work EnvironmentAutomotive manufacturing, vehicle maintenance, research and developmentAutomotive repair shops, manufacturing, vehicle maintenance

Dynamic Suspension systems are advanced, adaptive systems that adjust in real-time to driving conditions, enhancing handling and comfort. Shock Absorbers are simpler components that dampen shocks from the road. While shock absorbers are a key part of suspension systems, Dynamic Suspension offers a more sophisticated, adjustable solution for modern vehicles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Dynamic Suspension Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dynamic Suspension Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering, vehicle dynamics, and materials science, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with CAD software, simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink, and familiarity with testing equipment are essential technical requirements. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and innovate suspension systems. These skills ensure the development of safe, high-performance, and reliable vehicle suspension systems that meet both regulatory standards and customer expectations.

What are some common challenges faced by engineers working in dynamic suspension development, and how are they typically addressed?

Engineers in dynamic suspension development often encounter challenges such as balancing ride comfort with vehicle handling, integrating complex electronic control systems, and ensuring compatibility with various vehicle models. Addressing these issues usually involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, as well as rigorous testing and simulation. Staying up to date with advancements in materials science and control algorithms also helps engineers find innovative solutions to these challenges.

Ifyouveevertunedsuspension and felt the difference from a single adjustment, you already understand what this role is about. At Speedway Motors, our Product Engineers work hands-on with shocks and suspension components that directly shape how cars handle, respond, and perform on the road and track.

Just as important as the work we do is how we do it. Our core values guide everythingfrom how we collaborate as One Teamto how weChoose Positivity, putPeople First, speak up becauseYou Have a Voice, and stayDriven to Succeed. If that sounds like how you approach your work, wed love to connect.

Job overview

As a Product Engineer focused on shock and suspension components, youllplay a key role in designing, developing, and refining products that directlyimpactride quality, handling, and overall vehicle performance. This role is involved across the full product lifecyclefrominitialconcept and design through production and real-world validation.

Youllwork closely with suppliers,Purchasing, Quality, and our in-house Machine Shop todetermineoptimal materials, valving approaches, and manufacturing methods. This role is critical in defining product specifications related to form, fit, and function, while ensuring production processes are clearly documented through CAD Bill of Material (BOM) drawings.

This isntjust a desk roleyoullget hands-on. From prototyping and testing shock and suspension components to supporting Team Speedway with vehicle setup and validation, youllhelp ensure our products perform where it matters most: on real cars.

Here are the specifics:

  • Support the development and production of high-quality shock and suspension components by evaluating materials, valvingcharacteristics, and manufacturing processes.
  • Design new suspension products and improve existing shock systems to enhance ride quality, handling, and durability.
  • Create andmodifydesigns using SolidWorks, incorporating tools such as CMM, 3D scanning, and 3D printing.
  • Document and manage design changes within engineering systems and project files, including detailed BOM structures.
  • Maintainaccurateand organized engineering documentation, including revision history and product specifications.
  • Review non-conforming products anddetermineroot cause and appropriate disposition, with a focus on performance and reliability.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Merchandising, Quality Control,Purchasing, and Manufacturing to ensuresuspensionproducts meet performance expectations and customer needs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure processes are efficient, repeatable, and aligned with product performance requirements.
  • Analyze materials, labor, and production methods to reduce cost whilemaintainingor improving suspension performance.
  • Perform hands-on testing and validation of shock and suspension prototypes, including fitment and functional evaluation.
  • Support vehicle builds and testing with Team Speedway tovalidateproduct performance in real-world conditions.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use ofPPEsuch as safety glasses and safety shoes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and follow through on commitments.
  • Adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement and professional growth.
