Lead Veterinary Technician

???? Dundee Animal Hospital – Elgin
???? Schedule: 9–10 hour shifts | 7:45 AM – 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM
???? Rotation: Every other weekend


Are you an experienced veterinary technician ready to step into a leadership role where your skills and mentorship make a real impact? Dundee Animal Hospital is a 24/7 animal hospital seeking a confident, compassionate Lead Veterinary Technician to support our team. This position is primarily based in Elgin, while also providing leadership support across our three locations: East Dundee, Elgin, and Algonquin.

This is a hands-on leadership role offering a dynamic caseload, collaborative environment, and the opportunity to help guide team workflow, elevate patient care, and support technician development.

Your Role: Leadership + High-Level Patient Care

As Lead Veterinary Technician, you’ll support doctors, mentor staff, and help ensure smooth daily operations while delivering exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading technician workflow and supporting team efficiency across shifts
  • Mentoring and training veterinary assistants and technicians
  • Placing IV catheters, performing venipuncture, and running in-house diagnostics
  • Administering SQ, IM, and IV medications and fluid therapy
  • Assisting with procedures, surgical prep, and anesthesia monitoring
  • Performing radiographs and supporting urgent and critical cases
  • Safely and confidently handling and restraining patients
  • Triaging patients and communicating clearly and compassionately with clients
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and supporting hospital operations
  • Collaborating with leadership to improve protocols and patient care standards
What Makes You a Great Fit

We’re looking for a technician who is dependable, team-oriented, and passionate about both patient care and team development.

Ideal candidate:

  • Certified Veterinary Technician preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of veterinary technician experience preferred
  • Previous lead or mentorship experience strongly preferred
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-doctor hospital environment
  • Strong technical and patient handling skills
  • Excellent communication and client service abilities
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask
  • Positive attitude with a collaborative leadership mindset
