JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an LPN to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients at the Duke Children's Clinic in Durham, NC. Professional development opportunities include the ability to advance on the LPN clinical ladder and participate in clinic committees.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care in ambulatory settings, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager, charge nurse or practice manager.
  • Perform patient intake including: obtaining vital signs, administering survey tools, data collection, hearing and vision screens, assisting patients with ambulation/toileting, reviewing patient medications.
  • Completing procedural tasks including: administering vaccinations and medications according to protocols and provider orders, ear lavages, dental varnishing, specimen collection and correct labeling, assisting with clinic-performed procedures (including EKGs and orthostatic blood pressures), reviewing pre-printed material with patient/family, bill for nursing procedures.
  • Practice Development: Participates in various clinic committees to organize and improve patient care and serves as liaison between patients and providers to communicate needs and provide patient care.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team such as interpreters, clerical team, social work, Duke Well, and other members of the patients care team.
  • Participates in quality/performance improvement programs and projects, product evaluation, outcomes evaluation studies and/or clinical research.
  • Participate in the identification of clinical, operational, and safety related performance improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Job Eligibility Requirements:
  • Work requires graduation from an approved or accredited Practical Nurse program.
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.
  • Current State of North Carolina LPN licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • BLS required.

Job Schedule:
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
