Duke School of Medicine's collaborative Duke Cancer Institute (DCI) is seeking a Health Care Communications and Development Fellow. This position will support planning and execution of a major community education event focused on genitourinary cancers (prostate, kidney, and bladder). This annual event, hosted in partnership with Duke Cancer Institute Development and the Duke Cancer Institute's Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers, provides critical information for patients and caregivers while raising funds for research and community outreach. The event typically features expert presentations, volunteer engagement, and community participation. In September of 2026, the event will be held at NCCU's Student Center.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Professional communication skills across phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Canva, and Zoom; experience with basic photo/video editing is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Assist in developing promotional and informational materials, including social media content, web page announcement, flyers, sponsor packets, and a short video reel.
  • Support website updates and registration management for the event.
  • Coordinate logistics with NCCU staff, caterers, audiovisual technicians, and parking services.
  • Contribute to sponsor communications and update informational packets.
  • Participate in site visits for space planning and event setup.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and role planning.
  • Collaborate with health care providers and marketing teams to ensure accurate messaging and media coverage.
  • Provide on-site support during the event to ensure smooth operations and take video/photos (if possible, since the event takes place after the conclusion of the fellowship period).
