Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Duke Health Center Arringdon clinic in Morrisville, NC. This position is primarily based at Arringdon but may rotate to other Duke Cardiac Electrophysiology practice locations, including Duke Cardiology Clinic (Clinic 2F/2G), Duke Cardiology South Durham, and Duke Cardiology Raleigh, as needed to support patient care and operational needs. The APP serves as a specialized provider in cardiac electrophysiology, working collaboratively with attending physicians, cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and other Advanced Practice Providers to deliver evidence-based care for patients with cardiac rhythm disorders. Responsibilities include the evaluation and management of arrhythmias, pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) management, electrophysiology procedures, performing physical examinations, collecting and documenting patient data, ordering and conducting approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering laboratory studies and specialty consultations, and prescribing appropriate medications and interventions. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, education, consultation, and leadership within Duke Health.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record; Document patient encounters, including progress notes and discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician in diagnosing medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; Document normal and abnormal findings for review by the physician.
  • Order laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Carry out therapeutic procedures as necessary; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physicians, and maintain record of each patient's progress.
  • Participate in basic science and clinical research projects at the direction of the supervising physician.
  • May make work assignments for assigned nursing and technical personnel; review the work of other staff; train new personnel.
  • Participate in teaching physician assistant students techniques and procedures unique to cardiology.
  • Pacemaker and defibrillator interrogation, evaluation and appropriate programming with appropriate documentation.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of common arrhythmias, including prescribing and monitoring antiarrhythmic drug therapies.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a master's degree in nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A bachelor's degree required; master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
  • BLS required.
License
  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. BLS required.
  • DEA licensure with full prescriptive authority required.
Experience
  • Prior Advanced Practice Provider experience preferred. For Nurse Practitioner candidates, prior RN experience is preferred.

Job Hours
Monday-Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet clinic needs. No call or holiday coverage required.
