What is a DSP test engineer?

DSP Test Engineers are professionals who design, implement, and execute tests for digital signal processing (DSP) systems and devices. They validate the performance, functionality, and reliability of DSP algorithms and hardware, often working with audio, communications, or other signal-based technologies. Their work ensures that products meet technical specifications and industry standards, identifying and resolving issues before deployment. DSP Test Engineers typically use specialized software tools and measurement equipment to conduct their tests, and they collaborate closely with development and hardware teams throughout the product lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DSP test engineer?

To thrive as a DSP Test Engineer, you need a solid background in digital signal processing, electronics, and programming, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with testing tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, oscilloscopes, and signal generators, as well as relevant certifications like ISTQB, is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills make a candidate stand out in this position. These abilities are crucial for accurately validating DSP systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring reliable product performance.

What are some common challenges faced by DSP test engineers when validating new signal processing algorithms?

DSP Test Engineers often encounter challenges such as accurately simulating real-world signal conditions, handling large volumes of data, and ensuring that tests cover all relevant edge cases. Collaborating closely with algorithm developers and hardware teams is essential to troubleshoot discrepancies between expected and actual outcomes. Additionally, adapting test frameworks to evolving algorithm requirements and maintaining thorough documentation are vital for long-term project success.

Job description

ABOUT THE TEAM

Anduril's Electronic Warfare (EW) team is seeking experienced generalist embedded software engineers to build out the software ecosystem supporting a next-generation electronic warfare platform. As an Embedded software engineer, you'll develop high-performance implementations of numerical algorithms, collaborate with digital systems engineers to enable maximum-performance interfaces between next-gen RF hardware and software, work with DSP and RFML engineers to rapidly deploy bleeding-edge capabilities to our customers, and collaborate with the wider software organization to deliver seamless integration of electronic warfare products with the Anduril Lattice system-of-systems suite. You will apply state-of-the-art software construction techniques to ensure the timely delivery of correct mission-critical code.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Own RF test strategy and coverage for EW systems across development and manufacturing.
  • Drive improvements in RF test architecture, with a focus on tactically-relevant mission-focused testing.
  • Create, maintain electrical test systems through the full lifecycle of development, implementation, scaling, and refinement.
  • Improve and sustain existing test systems to improve automation, consistency, and coverage.
  • Document test plans, user instructions and manuals.
  • Determine root cause of product failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Work with Design, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to support customer returns and failure analysis.
  • Validate through regression testing when issues and corrective actions are resolved.
  • Train technicians on equipment use as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Test Engineering, RF validation, or hardware/system integration.
  • Experience with RF circuit board assemblies, subassemblies, and systems.
  • Familiarity with Python, and/or MATLAB for test scripting, data parsing, and data visualization.
  • Familiarity with electronics test equipment such as power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscope, function generators, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition and measurement sensors.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals including S-parameters, impedance matching, signal integrity, and RF signal chains.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Familiarity with Linux, Ubuntu and NixOS.
  • Hands-on experience with RF lab equipment such as VNA, spectrum analyzers, and RF signal generators.
  • Experience with test automation, PCBA design and mechanical design.
  • Experience supporting RF development and production testing, EW systems, or wireless/communications hardware.
