Job description

UI/UX Developer

Reston, VA (hybrid, requiring 2 days onsite)

Active TS/SCI eligibility preferred

At Bcore, our strength comes from how we deliver impact to the mission. Whether it’s architecting critical IT solutions, producing actionable intelligence, or developing cutting edge technology, we succeed because of the expertise, collaboration, and agility of our teams. Our Insight Solutions division delivers intelligence analysis, advanced data science, and strategic decision support. Bcore accelerates decisive advantage for warfighters and intelligence professionals by fusing human insight, rapid-fire engineering, precision-measured outcomes, and relentless grit into mission-ready solutions.

Are you ready to lean into analytic approaches that show customers the power of both technical and methodological innovation? Join our growing team supporting customer missions as a UI/UX Developer in Reston, VA (hybrid, requiring 2 days onsite).

As a UI/UX Developer, you'll design and build software products users reach for when they need to solve challenging problems, turning complex workflows and large datasets into actionable intelligence. This is a hands-on product design and engineering role, operating at the core of what we do: solving mission problems by transforming complexity into usable and simple tools, owning the development process from user research through production, and obsessing over the details that make our tools a joy to use. You'll start designing and building real products from day one.

What You’ll Do

  • UI/UX Design & Implementation: Research, design, and build user-facing products and features from idea to pilot. Design and develop intuitive, responsive user interfaces for primarily web-based applications.
  • Front-End Development: Build front-end components and applications using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or similar), working with full-stack and AI engineers to bring ideas to life
  • User Experience Optimization: Convert real user pain points into creative solutions, visualizations, and interfaces. Translate complex workflows into simple, efficient user experiences that improve usability and adoption.
  • Human-Centered Design: Apply Human-Centered Design principles and direct stakeholder input within short, iterative prototyping cycles — quick discovery conversations, lightweight task and workflow analysis, and putting working prototypes in front of real users early and often — so each proof of concept is shaped by how the mission actually works rather than by assumption or personal preference.
  • Design Options & Trade-Off Analysis: Develop more than one credible way to solve a problem and present those options objectively to users, product leads, and customers — articulating the pros, cons, cost, and risk of each, making a clear recommendation, and being equally prepared to see a different option chosen.
  • Self-Paced Navigation & Summary Analytics: Design navigational experiences that let users click through and explore complex material at their own pace, alongside summary-level analytics and roll-up views that convey the big picture at a glance — both grounded in Human-Centered Design principles and validated with the people who will use them.
  • Usability & Accessibility: Ensure applications meet usability standards and accessibility best practices
  • Design Systems: Contribute to and maintain consistent design patterns, components, and style guides
  • User Research & Feedback: Work directly with users to shape product vision, user experience, and application design. Gather and incorporate user feedback to continuously improve interface design and functionality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work as a part of the team turning user requirements into actionable feature sets, collaborating closely with backend engineers, product leads, and stakeholders to align UI/UX with new capabilities.
  • Performance Optimization: Improve front-end performance, responsiveness, and scalability

Education/Experience:

  • Requires Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 3+ years designing and building user-facing products

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with front-end technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS)
  • Experience with modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience designing user-centered interfaces for complex applications
  • Understanding of UX principles, usability, and interaction design
  • Working knowledge of Human-Centered Design principles and methods — contextual inquiry, personas, task and journey mapping, iterative prototyping, and usability testing — and the ability to use them to shape and narrow design options
  • Demonstrated ability to develop multiple design options and present them objectively, with the pros, cons, and trade-offs of each clearly articulated for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to translate user needs into functional design solutions
  • Experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD)
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Experience designing self-paced, exploratory navigation — progressive disclosure, drill-down, and guided click-through structures that let users control their own path through complex content
  • Experience designing summary-level analytics, dashboards, and roll-up views that give users an at-a-glance picture with a clear path into the supporting detail
  • Familiarity with APIs and backend integration
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and front-end deployment workflows
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience designing and developing intuitive user interfaces for data-driven applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI eligibility preferred

  • The expected salary range within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $105,000-$165,000. Final compensation is unique to each individual and will be determined based on factors such as experience, education, geographic location, and contractual requirements. This is not a guarantee.
  • Benefits include Health/Dental/Vision, 401(k), Paid Time Off, STD/LTD/Life Insurance/Voluntary Life Insurance, Stipends, Referral Bonuses, and more.
