Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of Administration & Planning, the Assistant Director of Data Insights & Digital Engagement serves as a strategic bridge between data analytics, technical infrastructure, and creative communications. This role is responsible for the integrity and analysis of student outcome data - specifically, the First Destination Survey (Beyond Columbia Survey) - and trains CCE staff in their utilization of the Center's core systems, which include: a client relationship management system (Salesforce); an online, digital job board (Handshake); the CCE website (Drupal); data collection and visualization tools (Excel, Qualtrics, and Tableau); a ticketing system (Jira); and other critical software applications. This position will work closely with multiple key stakeholders, CCE staff, peer technical groups at Columbia and nationally from other schools, and external technology vendors.
In tandem with CCE's two-person Communications & Events team, the incumbent will also support digital engagement and the production of video content for various CCE marketing channels, such as social media, the CCE website, and on-campus digital displays. The incumbent will also support and advise CCE staff and student staff on the creation of digital assets that promote CCE and further the mission.
A key collaborator within a nine-person Administration & Planning team, the incumbent helps to translate complex data into compelling digital narratives. By producing high-impact video content and social media assets integrating key data insights, the Assistant Director enhances student engagement and amplifies the Center's mission across digital channels.
Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Technical Operations
  • Systems Management & Optimization: With the support of Columbia College Information & Technology (CCIT) and CCE's Associate Director of Research & Technology, serve as a functional consultant and project manager for CCE's technical ecosystem, including Google Workspace, Salesforce, Handshake, Qualtrics, and Drupal. Act as the primary liaison with CCIT to troubleshoot hardware/software issues, manage CCE's hardware inventory, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Outcomes Research (First Destination Survey): Lead the administration of the annual Beyond Columbia Survey. Manage data collection workflows, analyze and report on post-graduation statistics, and produce high-visibility reports for university leadership and stakeholders.
  • Data Analysis & Strategic Reporting: Utilize Tableau, Qualtrics, and Google Analytics to evaluate the efficacy of CCE programs and digital assets. Transform raw usage data into actionable insights and visual dashboards that inform the Center's programs, services, and strategic direction.
  • Staff Training: Lead the onboarding/offboarding of staff regarding technical access. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of FAQs and best practices, and facilitate ongoing training to ensure staff proficiency in data and tech tools. Document and maintain best practices around cyclical reporting and ensure this is shared clearly with staff on a regular basis.
  • Professional Development: Represent CCE at workshops, employer events, and professional conferences. Develop knowledge of career services, higher education, and early talent recruiting. Benchmark against peer schools to inform CCE best practices in data insights and digital marketing.

Multimedia Production and Digital Engagement
  • Content Creation & Storytelling: Partner with the CCE Communications team to produce and edit professional video content that highlights career development resources, student success stories, alumni career paths, and employer opportunities.
  • Social Media & Digital Engagement: Enhance digital engagement by creating assets for social media, the CCE website, and on-campus digital displays. Ensure content is data-informed and relevant to Columbia undergraduates.
  • Student Staff Mentorship: Advise and support student staff in the creation of digital marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency and alignment with CCE's strategic messaging.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience, or combination of education and experience
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with diverse populations
  • Interest in the work of career services, student development, and higher education
  • Must have data analysis skills and ability to learn new applications quickly, as well as the ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Basic proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Canva, Capcut)
  • Must show strong initiative, good independent judgment, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision required
  • Flexibility in shifting priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills necessary
