The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is a global professional society representing more than 50,000 chemical engineers and related professionals across academia, industry, and government. AIChE supports the advancement of chemical engineering through education, professional development, technical programming, and the dissemination of industry knowledge.  

Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP) is AIChE's flagship monthly magazine and a leading source of technical and professional information for chemical engineers. CEP publishes practical, industry-focused articles covering topics such as process engineering, safety, sustainability, energy, biotechnology, and emerging technologies. The magazine reaches AIChE members worldwide through print and digital platforms and serves engineers at all stages of their careers.  

Position Summary 

The Print and Digital Production Coordinator of CEP is responsible for coordinating and executing CEP's print and digital publishing workflows to ensure the timely, accurate, and high-quality production of the magazine and related digital content. This role serves as a key operational resource supporting print production, website publishing, digital content management, and advertising coordination.  

The Production Coordinator will manage production schedules, oversee publishing workflows across multiple platforms, troubleshoot production and web content issues, and coordinate with internal departments, advertisers, and external vendors to maintain efficient operations. This role requires strong technical proficiency, exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage complex publishing processes in a deadline-driven environment.  

Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate print production workflows for CEP, ensuring monthly production schedules and publishing deadlines are met.  
  • Coordinate with editorial staff, internal teams, and external vendors including printers, digital publishing vendors, and web consultants to maintain smooth print and digital production operations. Upload and manage production files through print and digital publishing platforms, including prepress and proofing systems.  
  • Review production proofs and troubleshoot issues related to print quality, file preparation, and formatting. Coordinate corrections with internal teams, advertisers, and external vendors as needed.  
  • Prepare and manage digital publishing assets, including PDFs, HTML files, downloadable content, and issue-related web materials.  
  • Publish and maintain CEP website content within the content management system (CMS), from article setup and formatting, through PDF uploads and issue publication each month.  
  • Troubleshoot website publishing and content management glitches and coordinate resolutions with web consultants or internal web team.  
  • Coordinate digital advertising and sponsored content workflows, including managing creative assets, ensuring timely delivery and publication per specifications, tracking advertising revenue, and preparing monthly billing statements for invoicing. Prepare and distribute production-related reports, mailing data, and manufacturing instructions each month. Review invoices from print and digital vendors and enter into accounting system.  
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in publishing systems, production processes, and workflow efficiency.  
  • Manage and organize the inventory of hard copy magazines within the New York office; prepare magazines for shipment to conferences, events, and customer service office.  
  • Other projects as assigned by manager.

Location 

The position is based at our NYC corporate office. AIChE operates on a hybrid work schedule. Employees in this role are expected to work from the NYC office two days per week, with the option to work remotely on other weekdays, subject to business needs and manager approval.  

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • 5-7 years of experience in print and digital publishing production, media production, or web content management, preferably in a magazine, association, or media publishing environment. 
  • Strong technical proficiency with content management systems (Drupal 11 preferred), digital publishing tools, and production platforms; familiarity with digital advertising workflows, ad-serving systems, or sponsored content coordination preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) required. 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop, preferred. 
  • Experience with project management tools; Smartsheet preferred. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds to support magazine inventory and shipment needs. 

Compensation

The annual salary range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience.
