Mission

Alberta Highway Services Ltd. (AHSL) is proud to provide year-round maintenance services to Alberta Transportation on the Southwest Calgary Ring Road (SWCRR). This 31 km section includes six- and eight-lane divided freeway, 14 interchanges, three river crossings, and 49 bridge structures. Our dedicated team works from a brand-new, modern facility in Southwest Calgary to ensure safe, reliable, and well-maintained roadways for the public.

We operate 24/7/365, covering a range of activities — from snow and ice control in the winter to grass cutting, drainage, surface repairs, bridge upkeep, and traffic safety support in the summer.

We are currently seeking reliable and safety-focused Highway Maintenance Operators to join our growing team.

Main Responsibilities

As a Highway Maintenance Operator, you will be responsible for both equipment operation and physical labor, ensuring the SWCRR remains safe and operational year-round.

Key responsibilities include:

    • Operating and maintaining snowplows and other equipment

    • Performing physical duties such as traffic accommodation setup, flagging, and installing signs, guardrails, and delineators.

    • Completing daily inspections, minor repairs, and routine maintenance of equipment.

    • Applying AHSL safety practices in all work and wearing required PPE.

    • Working in all weather conditions, including long shifts (up to 12 hours), night shifts, and being on-call during winter.

    • Assisting team members with additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (asset).

  • Valid Class 3 or Class 1 driver’s license with air brakes endorsement and a recent 5-year abstract.

  • Reliable personal transportation.

  • Experience in heavy equipment operation (asset).

  • Road maintenance or construction experience (asset).

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and adapt to changing conditions.

  • Strong communication skills in English.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and safe work practices.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment fitness and drug/alcohol testing.
