Position Description Summary 

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Semi-Driver /Processor II will be responsible for hauling recyclable, construction debris and/or other similar materials to and from different residential, commercial and industrial sites utilizing various semi tractors, trailers, roll-off trucks and roll-off containers. When not driving, the Semi-Driver / Processor willassistwith heavy equipment operation and/or recyclable material processing. This position involves entering and exiting a heavy-duty tractor,truck,or heavy equipmentnumeroustimes each day.  

The Semi Driver/ProcessorII will ensure outstanding customer service, efficient material processing, and a successful recycling environment to meet the organization's goals.  

Semi-Driver Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Attention to safetyat all timesincluding the safe driving and operation of various semi tractors, trailers, roll-offtrucksand heavy equipmenton a daily basis, including: 

  • Pick up and/or drop off full roll-off containers at industrial or commercial job sites including, but not limited to, the Drop Off Station, Recovery Yard, MRF, Community Clean Ups and other satellite locations and transport them todesignatedlocations for recycling ordisposal; 

  • Pick up, drop off, live load and/or otherwise transport full or empty trailers (live floor, dry box, low boy) at industrial or commercial job sites including, but not limited to, the Drop Off Station, Recovery Yard, MRF, Community Clean Ups and other satellite locations and transport them to designated locations for recycling ordisposal; 

  • Utilize in-truck, hand-held electronic or manual record keeping, dispatching and/or other forms of productivity tracking/activity logging/navigation; 

  • Communicates with customers, fellowemployeesand others as directed/necessary to ensure safe,efficientand customer-focused service 

  • Operate heavy equipment including wheel loader, excavator,orother heavy equipment. Operational duties include clearing tip floors, loading trailers, moving recyclable material/waste, etc. 

  • Perform daily pre/post-trip truck/trailer/equipmentinspections; 

  • Comply withall companypoliciesall local, state, and federal transportationregulations; 

  • Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior of assigned equipment 

  • Responsible for training new Roll Off Driver staff 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Processor II ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assistcustomers with questions and unload materials. 

  • Sort and process materials. 

  • Maintain a clean work area and public environment. 

  • Assess incoming material todeterminequantity and composition. 

  • Operate all point-of-sale systems, scale and transitlogisticssystems, transactions including cash handling (ex. gatehouse, offices, etc.). 

  • Prepare materials, bins, and trucks for shipments. 

  • Safe operation of all machinery, equipment, and vehicles. 

  • Complete opening and closing procedures, as assigned. 

  • Maintain all sites to maximize customer comfort, safety, and ease in unloading material. 

  • Handle and resolve various customer issues. 

  • Help plan and carry out special projects as assigned by the Operations Manager. 

Required Skills and Abilities:

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED 

  • Must have a valid Michigan Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement 

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in the trucking/transportation industry; will consider alternative work experiences 

  • Some experienceoperatingheavy machinery preferred 

  • Legally eligible to work in the UnitedStates; 

  • Clean driving record 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able tofrequentlynavigate in and out of vehicles and equipment. This includes climbing in and out of vehicles and equipment,bendingand twisting. 

  • This position requires an individual to perform a variety of physical labor activities usingall thedepartmental equipment either as a direct operator orassistingin the operation. 

  • Works instrenuouslyphysical conditions include extreme cold or heat, inclement weather, and night conditions for periods over eight hours. 

  • Exposure to material and equipment that requires specific and detailed safety use to prevent physical injury to self and others. 

  • In order toproperly perform the integral functions of this job, the employee isfrequentlyrequired to: stand, walk or sit, talk, hear, climb, balance, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend. Also, the employee will frequently be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects and toreach withhands and arms. 

  • The employee occasionally will berequiredto lift objects or exert a force equal to that of 50 pounds. 

  • Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depthperception,and the ability to adjust focus.
