What kind of work can I get with a drone?

Drones are used in various jobs such as aerial photography, videography, surveying, mapping, inspection, agriculture, and search and rescue. These roles often require drone pilot certifications, knowledge of relevant regulations, and proficiency with drone operation and data analysis tools.

Will drone jobs be replaced by AI?

Drone operator jobs involve tasks such as piloting, data collection, and maintenance, which require human judgment and hands-on skills. While AI and automation can assist with flight planning and data processing, they are unlikely to fully replace human drone operators in the near future due to the need for oversight, troubleshooting, and decision-making in complex environments.

What kind of jobs can you do with drones?

Jobs with drones include aerial photography and videography for real estate, events, or media production, as well as inspections of infrastructure like power lines, bridges, and wind turbines. Drone operators often need certification, good flying skills, and knowledge of safety regulations to perform tasks in various industries such as agriculture, construction, and surveying.

Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Tactical Recon & Strike team at Anduril develops aerial small drones (Group 1-3) and all equipment to test, deploy and operate. The team is responsible for taking products like Ghost, Anvil, Bolt and Altius from concepts to operational systems. We work in close coordination with specialist teams to solve some of the hardest problems facing our customers. We are looking for software engineers, hardware engineers, roboticists, and front-end mobile developers who are excited about creating a powerful robotics platform that can be tasked and viewed in real-time through a variety of interfaces.
ABOUT THE JOB
Do you like designing things that fly fast, sometimes explode, and make a big (literal and figurative) impact on our world events? We are looking for an Electrical Engineering lead to join the team! TRS focuses on rapid prototyping and iterative development to enable fast deployment of products in support of defense for the US and our allies. Our team is growing with new product concept launches, scalability opportunities, and technology development advancements enabled by our rapid prototyping successes.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead a technical team through concept to flight delivery for R&D/prototype design with a goal to transition to product line ramp up to production of new drones, rocket motor systems, and more.
  • Guide the team through architecture trades, board design, implementation, troubleshooting and validation, supporting system level integration, flight test, and customer deliveries.
  • Troubleshoot issues that span the electrical and software boundaries, with solid skills using both lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, DMM, etc.) and software debugging tools.
  • Work closely with other electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers to deliver fully functional products.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment supporting new developments, active deployments, and customer operated hardware.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Lab-based prototyping / research and development experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex embedded systems and products.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and integrating mixed signal circuits.
  • Proficiency with Altium or equivalent ECAD tools.
  • Competence with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, current-probes, and automation of tests.
  • Experience working on products used in extreme environments (aerospace, defense, etc.).
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ownership of unit and subsystem level payloads or products.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience.
  • Systems engineering and architectural trade experience with payloads or products.
  • Proficiency with embedded software and firmware (C/Linux is a plus).
