A leading organization in the power delivery and energy sector is seeking a skilled Drone Operator to support inspection of overhead transmission and distribution (T&D) infrastructure. This field-based role focuses on conducting detailed aerial inspections, capturing high-resolution data, and supporting maintenance, reliability, and engineering teams across utility projects.
This opportunity is ideal for someone with hands-on UAV inspection experience who is comfortable working in active utility corridors and outdoor environments.
Position SummaryAerial Inspection Operations
- Operate UAVs to perform detailed inspections of transmission and distribution systems, including structures, insulators, conductors, and hardware
Power Line Asset Inspection
- Capture high-resolution imagery, video, and thermal data (when applicable) to identify defects such as corrosion, damage, vegetation encroachment, and clearance issues
Right-of-Way (ROW) Assessment
- Inspect and document vegetation conditions, access routes, environmental constraints, and encroachments along utility corridors
Data Capture & Quality Assurance
- Ensure consistent, accurate, and repeatable data collection aligned with project and client standards
Data Processing & Deliverables
- Organize and process inspection data into actionable outputs, including annotated imagery, reports, and geospatial datasets
Safety & Compliance
- Perform all UAV operations in compliance with FAA Part 107 regulations and established safety protocols, including working around energized lines
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with engineers, field teams, and stakeholders to plan missions, define data requirements, and deliver timely results
Equipment Management
- Maintain UAV platforms, sensors (visual/thermal), and support equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations
RequirementsFAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (required)
1–3+ years of experience conducting drone-based infrastructure or utility inspections
Experience inspecting transmission and/or distribution systems preferred
Familiarity with common T&D components (insulators, crossarms, conductors, clamps, etc.)
Experience with inspection and mapping tools (e.g., Pix4D, DroneDeploy, GIS platforms)
Basic understanding of LiDAR data (preferred, not required)
Ability to read and interpret utility drawings, structure diagrams, and ROW maps
Willingness to travel and work in field environments
Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and safety-focused mindset
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing routine or condition-based utility inspections
Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., utility inspection practices, regulatory frameworks)
Background in surveying, asset management, or utility construction
Experience integrating UAV data into GIS or asset management systems
