Job Summary
Conduct all aspects of the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools Transportation Department's training program including driver training for all drivers within MNPS in accordance with Federal, State and local traffic laws that governs school bus operations. Plans and organizes safety programs in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provides third (3rd) party CDL testing for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools employees. Supervises CDL Driver Trainers to ensure a high quality of driver training is provided for MNPS Transportation Department.
What you will do

• Instructs and trains bus drivers in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local laws and departmental procedures.
• Supervises new driver candidates, schedules classes, conducts all aspects of instruction to ensure new drivers are fully qualified to perform their duties; including all classroom, range, and field training.
• Develops all Transportation Department continuous training agendas, materials, and presentations for in-service and cluster meetings.
• Continuously monitors bus drivers operating techniques to ensure compliance with safety regulations by conducting ride-along assessments when directed as part of the New Driver Training Program or MNPS Bus Driver Remedial Training.
• Reviews bus driver and bus monitor applications and conducts interviews with qualified applicants.
• Responsible for maintaining Bus Driver records to include, but not limited to, Motor Vehicle Report, Drug Screening, Background Check, DOT physical, and driver training records (Entry Level Driver Training).
• Compiles safety reports in accordance with Federal, State and Local requirements.
• Validates all state required Infinit-I annual driver training modules are completed for all CDL drivers.
• Provides third party Commercial Driver's License (CDL) testing in accordance with the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. Must remain in good standing with the Department of Safety and Homeland Security as a third-party examiner and attend required recertification training.
• Schedules new bus driver training classes to ensure bus driver staffing levels remains adequate for the department.
• Serves on the Accident Review Team as required. Conduct evaluations on School Bus Stop Locations for safety as required. Serves as a member of the MNPS Snow Patrol Team. Responds to School Bus and Fleet accidents and incidents as required.
• Drives a school bus and transports students when requested and directed. Teaches First Aid, CPR, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training to all new drivers and bus monitors.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent Required

Experience Qualifications

• 3-5 years Increasingly responsible experience in Pupil Transportation as a driver trainer, or related School Transportation operations Required

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Laws governing school bus drivers.
• Knowledge of principles and techniques of school bus operations.
• Knowledge of fundamentals of safety awareness programs.
• Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of OSHA compliance regulations.
• Excellent public relations and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to evaluate driver's skills for operating a school bus.
• Knowledge of bus driver training fundamentals.
• Strong computer skills and experience in using MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement safety and training instructional programs; including driver staff development programs.
• Ability to write concise reports.
• Ability to work cooperatively with law enforcement, and other governmental agencies.
• Excellent classroom teaching techniques; including creating lesson plans.
• Ability to work flexible schedules and extra time as needed.

Licenses and Certifications

• CDL License with Passenger, and School Bus Endorsements Required
• Third (3rd) party testing Certification from the State of Tennessee is required; or the ability to obtain third party testing Certification within 1 Year Required

Equivalency

Starting At: $75,309.64

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
