What is a driver trainee?

A driver trainee works with an employer to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to haul freight and operate tractor trailers. It usually involves the training you need to get a commercial driver's license (CDL). The process varies with the company, but it typically includes a combination of classroom time, safety coursework, and on-the-job route driving. Depending on the materials you carry, your duties may also involve earning additional license endorsements, such as hazardous material (HAZMAT). Your responsibilities may also be to load and unload trucks. You also have to record your work hours as per state and federal regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a driver trainee?

To thrive as a Driver Trainee, you typically need a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, vehicle inspection procedures, and, eventually, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are often required. Strong attention to safety, good communication, and a willingness to learn help trainees adapt quickly and work well with supervisors and customers. These skills and qualifications ensure safe driving practices, regulatory compliance, and readiness for advancement to full professional driving roles.

What types of training and support can I expect as a driver trainee?

As a Driver Trainee, you will typically participate in a structured training program that combines classroom instruction with on-the-road experience under the supervision of experienced drivers or instructors. You'll learn about vehicle safety, regulatory compliance, route navigation, and proper loading/unloading procedures. Most employers provide mentorship and regular feedback during training, ensuring you build confidence and develop safe driving habits before transitioning to independent routes. This supportive environment helps you gradually assume more responsibility while preparing for any required licensing exams.

Our success is a direct reflection of the talented and diverse people who make a positive difference in the lives of our customers every day. We believe that a high-performing culture, combined with valuable opportunities for personal development and professional challenge, and a healthy work-life balance, can be highly motivating and productive. Kemper's products and services are making a real difference to our customers, who have unique and evolving needs. By joining our team, you will help provide an experience to our stakeholders that delivers on our promises.

Role:Life Insurance Sales Agent

Employment Type:Full-Time with Benefits

Career and Opportunity:

Kemper is a diversified insurance holding company with a history spanning over 100 years. We are firmly committed to serving the insurance needs of modest-income families. Our strength lies in our dedication to frequent personal home visits with new and existing customers to collect premiums, conduct sales of new policies, and address other service needs.

For new unlicensed agents, your journey begins with a paid training period. During this time, we provide the tools and guidance needed to study for and pass the licensing exams. You'll earn a percentage of the premiums you collect, as well as a commission on all new sales you make. From there, the sky's the limit! Through hard work and dedication, you can increase your monthly income with every new sale. It really is that simple.

If you're passionate about serving the underserved, this is the career for you. Our agents gain personal satisfaction and community prestige by performing meaningful work that helps clients protect the people and property they cherish.

With a pay-for-performance compensation model, agents have the opportunity to determine their own paycheck. As your skills and knowledge grow, so does your potential for increased income. Superior performance is recognized through awards, prizes, and company-sponsored trips.

Benefits:

Kemper offers competitive benefits, including:

  • Group Life Insurance
  • Short-Term & Long-Term Disability

  • Pursue continuous professional development in insurance products and sales effectiveness

Minimum Qualifications:
