Job Summary:
The Specialist - Driver Operations is responsible for the relationship with an assigned group of up to 40 Drivers which can be Company Drivers and/or Independent Contractors. Quality Carriers, Inc. operates on a 24/7 basis. As such, Specialist - Driver Operations are expected to participate in an on-call schedule. This schedule will vary based on location and business needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Driver Experience/Impact

  • Know and manage each driver's individual earning and time at home requirements.
  • Maintain a driver calendar to be used to plan all drivers’ requested time off or unavailability including compliance related time the driver is not available to work.
  • Record all driver home-time requests in TMW and subsequent systems.
  • Counsel drivers on safety, compliance and service issues as needed to include written documentation provided by Safety and/or HR.
  • Review performance bonus results with all Company Drivers quarterly, providing coaching to maximize bonus earnings.
  • Perform a minimum of 1 Company Driver ride along per Quarter.
Safety Responsibility/Impact
  • Actively engage drivers daily in safety and complacency related conversation to help drive the QC Safety Culture.
  • Ensure drivers' hours of service are properly updated in the ISAAC system or other system defined by the QC Safety Team, and make necessary authorized updates.
  • Work with Operations and QC Safety Manager to issue breach of contract notices to Independent Contractor drivers as required.
  • Work with OM and HR to develop needed disciplinary actions for Company Drivers consistent with company policy.
  • Review system tools and data to provide relevant information to drivers regarding safety, customer service, regulatory and company policy compliance.
  • Validate driver dispatch plans to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
Regulatory Responsibility/Impact
  • Work with maintenance team on a daily basis to ensure all tractors are in a high level of repair and in full compliance to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all QC compliance standard.
  • Ensure all monthly on-line safety training is completed and work with drivers and safety to assign other need refreshers as driver performance dictates.
  • Verify all tractor profiles are accurate including both presence and working condition of equipped accessories.
Service Delivery/Impact
  • Properly pre-trip and communicate all assigned loads for an assigned group of drivers to ensure a minimum of 95% on-time service is maintained.
    • Individual customer contracts may exceed 95%.
  • Verbally and electronically dispatch all drivers in accordance with QC policies, utilizing QC-provided devices such ISAAC tablets, and software including TMW, ISAAC, and Totalmail.
  • Coordinate driver utilization with Central Scheduling and Equipment Planning teams to maximize driver earning while ensuring customer service expectations are met.
  • Communicate all potential and real service related issues proactively as they occur to the billing respective CSR to ensure the Customer is notified of all late deliveries prior to the planned arrival.
  • Works with an assigned group of drivers on a daily basis on their use of the Quality Carriers Dispatch workflow process.
Financial Responsibility/Impact
  • Works with an assigned group of drivers on a daily basis to ensure maximum utility of their hours and that each driver's earnings are maximized while maintaining the desired standard of living for each individual driver.
  • Work with the dispatch team daily to ensure all Company Driver capacity priorities are being met.

Requirements
Skills and Abilities:
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with DOT Requirements, CSA expectations and Safety procedures.
  • Ability to travel multiple times per year as needed for training and career development purposes.
  • Highly proficient computer skills must be comfortable using a computer and various software programs.
Education and Experience:
  • 4+ years truck transportation industry experience or 4 year degree preferred.
  • 2 + years of experience in a leadership or management position.
