Job description

Sunrise Farms is a group of companies with primary focus in the poultry industry.
From our hatcheries to our "ready to eat" state of the art cooking facilities we service customers in the retail, food service and industrial sectors. We are proud of our support of the Canadian farm as well as our investment in the latest equipment and technologies at our facilities across Canada. Our test kitchens have the most current cooking equipment replicating that used in commercial establishments, to facilitate precision testing. This way you know the product you receive will perform to your expectations. We are proud of our long-standing partnerships with family-owned Canadian chicken farmers to produce high quality products.

Role

Sunrise Farms is seeking a Part-Time Class 1 Driver to transport live chickens from local farms to our processing facility in Lethbridge.

This is a pay-per-load position and is an excellent opportunity for professional drivers looking to supplement their income with an additional paycheque.

Most work is scheduled in the early morning hours, with pickups occurring within approximately a 2-hour radius of Lethbridge. The position is ideal for drivers seeking 1 to 3 days of work per week while maintaining other employment or personal commitments.

Drivers interested in a long-term career with Sunrise Farms may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position based on performance, reliability, availability, and demonstrated commitment to the operation.

Important Hours of Service Requirement

The successful candidate must comply with all provincial and federal Hours of Service (HOS) regulations. Drivers must be able to legally perform the work assignment without exceeding:

  • Maximum 14 hours on-duty in a day
  • Maximum 70 hours on-duty in a 7-day cycle (or applicable cycle limits)
  • All required off-duty and rest periods

Applicants currently employed by another carrier are responsible for ensuring they remain compliant with all applicable HOS regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Transport live chickens safely from farm locations to processing facilities
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Maintain accurate driver logs and required documentation
  • Follow animal welfare, biosecurity, and company procedures
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment at all times
  • Deliver loads safely and on schedule
  • Report any equipment, safety, or operational concerns promptly

Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years holding a valid Class 1 driver's licence
  • Air Brake (Q) endorsement
  • Clean Commercial Driver's Abstract dated within the past 30 days
  • Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience with references
  • Experience completing Provincial/Federal Driver Logs
  • Strong understanding of Hours of Service regulations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong commitment to safety and animal welfare
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Livestock transportation experience considered an asset
  • Mechanical or heavy-duty repair experience considered an asset
  • No cross-border travel required
What We Offer:
  • Pay-per-load compensation
  • Flexible part-time scheduling
  • Consistent local work within Southern Alberta
  • Opportunity to earn additional income while maintaining other employment
  • Potential pathway to full-time employment for committed and dependable drivers
  • Modern and well-maintained equipment
  • A safety-focused work environment
