Job description

Purpose:ย  The Roustabout position is responsible for supporting oilfield operations. The Roustabout will be performing maintenance on oil field wells and may be required to work with hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment (buffers, grinders, pipe and hand wrenches, hammers, gas monitors, backhoes, forklifts, boom trucks and skid-steers). This is a labor-intensive position with diverse job duties that may vary on a daily basis. Roustabouts may be required to work in all types of inclement and/or extreme weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Unscrew or tighten pipes, casing, tubing, and pump rods, using hand and power wrenches and tongs.
  • Walk flow lines to locate leaks, using electronic detectors and by making visual inspections, and repair the leaks.
  • Move pipes to and from trucks, using truck winches and motorized lifts, or by hand.
  • Dismantle and repair oil field machinery, boilers, and steam engine parts, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Dig drainage ditches around wells and storage tanks.
  • Bolt or nail together wood or steel framework to erect derricks. Cut down and remove trees and brush to clear drill sites, to reduce fire hazards, and to make way for roads to sites.
  • Dig holes, set forms, and mix and pour concrete into forms to make foundations for wood or steel derricks.
  • Tank installation and repairs
  • Install motors on equipment
  • Set well equipment at well locations which includes cement pads and pumping units
  • Responsible for tie-down of pumping units and installing counterweights for balancing pumping units
  • General yard maintenance of ground and buildings
  • Clean up spills
  • Must be proficient with all tools including air and electrical

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record is a must
  • Experience working in construction (labor), including proficiency with all types of tools and equipment
  • Hard worker who works well with others
  • Previous Roustabout oil field experience a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in adverse conditions (heat and cold).
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, balance, climb, and reach overhead.
  • Must be able to handle (using both hands and arms and rotation of the hand or wrist).
  • Must be able to manipulate fingers to pick, pinch or, otherwise working with fingers primarily.
  • Must be able to walk, sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Must be able to carry, push, pull, and lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to engage in coherent speech and possess capacity to hear loud and soft noises.
