Summary

The Field Service Technician is responsible for safely installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting HMH's proprietary automated drilling systems and related third-party equipment on Onshore/Offshore drilling rigs. This role applies advanced technical knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems to optimize equipment performance, reduce operational inefficiencies, and prevent field issues. The Field Service Technician also supports equipment installations by interpreting engineering drawings and hydraulic schematics, provides training to customers, employees, and rig crews on safe operation and repair procedures, and promotes adherence to the HMH HSE Management System. In addition, this position helps resolve complex technical issues, develops best practices to improve drilling performance, and maintains strong customer relationships to support satisfaction and retention.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Service Manager on the day-to-day management and long-range stewardship of the Company
  • Testing and repairing equipment by travelling to the location of the customer
  • Providing troubleshooting as well performing installation of equipment
  • Attending to the needs of the customer whenever required
  • Performing the confirmation that the equipment is functional
  • Sometimes provide telephone support to the customer in order to perform troubleshooting
  • Providing onsite services for individuals as well as organizations
  • Ensuring that the equipment on which they have performed troubleshooting is in proper working condition
  • Ensures that all Service and maintenance activities are planned and executed under the Permit-to-Work System if required.
  • Participate in and lead in the Safety Observation Card (SOC) program and ensure that all issues are reported and closed out.
  • Participate in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for any operations relating to service and maintenance activities. Act as a lead in the JSA process and ensure information is communicated and PTW and JSA requirements are understood by all job participants.
  • Ensure Service Truck is properly loaded with proper tools and inventory to ensure we can bring value to our contractors.
  • Coordinate Service activities with Client to maximize efficiency of operations and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels for equipment in area of responsibility. Coordinate receiving and issuing of parts and maintenance of material control.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the general areas of the Shop and office areas.
  • Maintain comprehensive handover notes and ensure that all maintenance disciplines are communicating handovers with their respective relief.
  • In case of equipment damage, report it to the Service Manager and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
  • Keep abreast of operational/technical bulletins pertaining to their particular area of responsibility and ensure all requisite documents are kept up to date.
  • Attend pre-tour, pre-job and weekly safety meetings and other client and 3rd party safety meetings as required.
  • Ensure and enforce the proper use of PPE at all levels within his work area.
  • Responsible for scheduling inspection and certification and upkeep of all equipment such as but not limited to
  • Rigging & Lifting equipment:
    • Overhead Cranes
    • Radios and related communication equipment
    • Environmental related equipment
    • Emergency & Fire Fighting equipment
    • Forklift
  • Ensures all certification and training requirements are met and maintained as per the company training matrix at all times.
  • When not in Field work as directed on Shop Activities and assist with ongoing O & R Jobs.
  • Must represent the company in a professional manner both on and off the job to include confidentiality of company and client business.
  • Fulfill all other requirements as directed by company policy and the Area Manager.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 1 year of experience working in a technical or field services role
  • Commitment to Health, Safety, Security, Environment (HSSE)
  • Previous experience as a Field Service Technician
