This position is responsible for providing engineering, operations, regulatory and supply chain management support for all exploration and development well work. The work is to be conducted in a safe, legal, and environmentally responsible and effective manner.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Takes an active role in managing working interest partners during the planning and execution phase of the project.
  • Identifies and evaluates offset wells. Leads internal well design reviews and risk assessments for assigned wells.
  • Develops well designs and confirms pore pressure/fracture gradient predictions provided by internal SME.
  • Reviews and approves hazard surveys for well site selection.
  • Writes drilling procedures for assigned wells. Solicits and coordinates input from internal and external SME's and vendors to prepare drilling procedure. Documents all well design changes using MOC process.
  • Prepares and presents procedure at pre-spud meeting (DWOP) to prepare rig crews and vendors for operations.
  • Provides technical support on daily drilling operations and is the primary contact for field engineering issues.
  • Provides full-time engineering support to assigned drilling rig(s). Monitors daily morning report and facilitates data error corrections and coding. Primary responsibility for well file population and management for assigned wells.
  • Provides internal and external benchmarking and end of well reports. Coordinates and communicates end of well reviews. Leads the joint review with the AMT or Exploration Team.
  • Assures assigned wells are properly permitted. Serves as a primary liaison with Governmental Regulatory Offices for assigned wells. Prepares plans and required documents for drilling permit and well containment.
  • Evaluates activities against pre-established goals. Makes recommendations based on evaluations.
  • Full understanding of, and active participation in, HESMS Program. Accountable for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable regulations and Company HES training requirements and policies.
  • Manages contracts and contractors to continuous improvement via the Contract and Contractor Management Standard.
  • Responsible, in conjunction with SCM, for preparing tenders, analyzing vendor response, awarding contracts, and administering assigned contracts.
  • Assists with timely procurement of material, equipment and personnel. Reviews and approves invoices for accuracy.
  • Provides relief for Drilling Engineering Supervisor and/or Drilling Superintendent, as required, during their absence.
  • Conducts rig site visits as required to support operations and well plans.
  • Seeks and promotes new and best available technology for efficient and safe operations. Examples include managed pressure drilling, narrow margin operations and lost circulation mitigation.
  • Familiar with deepwater challenges including drilling in salt, depleted zones, unstable shale and high well inclinations.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Minimum of 10 years drilling engineering experience in Deepwater.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent
  • 15 Years of experience working in the Oil & Gas Industry
  • Risk Management skills, including knowledge of Risk Assessment and Management of Change
  • Knowledge of HESMS and applicable governmental regulations
  • Contractor performance management skills
  • Teamwork skills

  • Written and verbal communication skills
