Job description

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
POSITION TITLE: Project Engineer - Entry Level (2 -3 years of experience preferred) (Construction Industry)
DEPARTMENT: Estimating & Project Management
LOCATION: North New Jersey (Hackensack River Meadowlands in Bergen County)
SALARY RANGE: $46,000- $60,000
JOB NUMBER: 2024-1324-01
DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Nationally recognized environmental remediation contractor (#4 in ENR in 2023) looking for an entry level Project Engineer with 2 - 3 years of experience preferred to support a large and complex environmental remediation project in northern New Jersey. This project will be a long-term project estimated at a duration of 3 - 5 years. Some of our clients include the US Army Corps of Engineers and US EPA.
The scope for this project includes mobilization and set up of support infrastructure including installation of various Sediment Management Areas (SMAs), Waterfront Transfer Areas (WTAs) Piers and On-Water Support Areas (OWSAs) to facilitate transport and staging of dredged material, dewatering and load out of sediment and access waterways; installation of Low Water Management Structures (LWMSs) via sheet piling to support dredging and backfill within the waterway; Dredging and Backfill within the waterway and marsh areas; placement of a thin layered cap around select radio towers, excavation and backfill within select upland areas, Transportation and Disposal, Water Treatment and Discharge; and extensive Marsh (wetland) and Waterway Restoration.
Sevenson has been in business for over 100 years, entering the environmental remediation market sector in 1979 performing the remediation at the first Superfund site ever - Love Canal. We have a huge program and great backlog of work.
This is not a contract position.
The daily work will include:
  • Report daily construction activities
  • Development of daily excavation drawings via AutoCAD
  • Maintain daily material delivery tracking and various construction production logs
  • Preparation of written work plans
  • Quality control of ongoing construction work in accordance with the project construction drawings and specifications
  • Coordination of site deliveries with field personnel
  • As the individual progresses in this position, responsibilities may also include procurement of materials, equipment rentals and professional services, project scheduling, and project accounting and cost tracking.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering, or applicable science degree from an accredited college/university. This position requires a well-organized individual with good communication skills as the selected individual will interact regularly with internal project management staff, field supervision, professional services, construction subcontractors, and the client's representatives.
Other job requirements include:
  • 0 to 5 years previous construction or engineering/consulting industry experience supporting construction; 2-3 years preferred
  • Intermediate to proficient knowledge of AutoCAD software
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Knowledge or prior use of MS Project a plus
  • General knowledge of OSHA safety regulations a plus
  • I.T. certification preferred
  • Prior experience in environmental dredging and GPS technology preferred
  • Generalized heavy civil/earthwork construction experience preferred

An employee's salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
