What is a drawing?
What are the qualifications to get a drawing job?
The qualifications that you need to start a career in drawing depends on the position and industry. However, you typically need a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, illustration, or graphic design and strong drawing skills. Some community colleges also offer associate degree programs in graphic design, animation, or multimedia production. To qualify for an art educator position, you may need a state license. In addition to these requirements, employers often request applicants to submit a portfolio of their work to demonstrate their drawing abilities and prior experience. To excel in a drawing job, you must have creativity as well as the ability to use computer software to create, enhance, or animate drawings.

What is the difference between Drawing vs Drafting?
| Aspect | Drawing | Drafting |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Often requires artistic skills, technical drawing knowledge, and sometimes certifications in art or design | Typically requires technical training or certifications in CAD or drafting software |
| Work Environment | Art studios, design firms, architectural offices, or on-site for construction | Architectural, engineering, or manufacturing offices using CAD software |
| Industry Usage | Used in fine arts, illustration, and conceptual design | Used in architecture, engineering, and construction industries |
Drawing involves creating visual art or conceptual sketches, often emphasizing artistic expression. Drafting focuses on technical, precise representations of structures or products using specialized software. While both involve visual representation, drawing is more artistic, and drafting is more technical and standardized.
