Job description

What Your Day Will Look Like:

As a Drainage Design Engineer, you'll apply hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles to support the design and analysis of drainage systems for transportation projects. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you'll contribute to the development of roadway drainage solutions, including stormwater conveyance, culverts, channels, storm sewer systems, and detention facilities. You'll help ensure designs comply with transportation agency standards and drainage criteria while taking increasing ownership of assigned tasks and strengthening your technical judgment and project experience.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare and review drainage design plans, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, and technical reports for transportation projects, including roadway, bridge, and culvert drainage systems.
  • Apply applicable drainage design standards, criteria, and agency guidelines to ensure accuracy, compliance, and constructability in stormwater and roadway drainage designs.
  • Support coordination with roadway, structural, environmental, and other multidisciplinary teams, as well as clients and reviewing agencies, to integrate drainage requirements into overall project design.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, storm sewer and culvert sizing, cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs for assigned drainage components of transportation projects.
  • Assist with quality assurance reviews, address drainage-related design comments, and provide technical support during plan reviews or field questions.

What You'll Need:

Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering. 5-10+ years of transportation drainage experience with TxDOT projects. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Proficiency in Microstation ORD, AutoCad, and Civil3D software. Proposal writing/marketing experience is a plus. This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements. While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
