Drag Shows information

What is a drag show?

Drag shows are live performances where entertainers, known as drag queens or drag kings, dress in exaggerated clothing, makeup, and personas to embody a different gender, often for entertainment, satire, or artistic expression. These shows typically feature lip-syncing, dancing, comedy, and audience interaction, and are popular in LGBTQ+ communities. Drag shows can be found in nightclubs, theaters, and at special events, celebrating diversity and self-expression.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a drag performer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Drag Performer, you need strong stage presence, performance abilities (such as lip-syncing, dancing, and acting), and creativity in costume and makeup design. Familiarity with sound and lighting equipment, as well as experience in makeup artistry and costume construction, are valuable technical skills. Confidence, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills help performers engage audiences and collaborate with other artists. These skills are essential for delivering captivating performances, building a personal brand, and succeeding in the competitive entertainment industry.

What are some common challenges performers face when working in drag shows, and how can they prepare for them?

Performers in drag shows often encounter challenges such as managing quick costume changes, mastering makeup and styling under time constraints, and maintaining high energy during multiple performances. Additionally, adapting to different audience reactions and collaborating with fellow performers and backstage crew are essential skills. Preparation involves practicing routines, building a reliable wardrobe, and developing strong communication with the production team to ensure smooth transitions and a successful show.

What is the difference between Drag Shows vs Drag Performers?

AspectDrag Shows
DefinitionEvents or performances featuring drag artists showcasing their talents, often including lip-syncing, dancing, and comedy.
Work EnvironmentVenues like clubs, theaters, or festivals where multiple performers participate in a scheduled show.
CredentialsNo formal credentials required; skills are often self-taught or learned through practice.
Industry UsageRefers to the event or production as a whole, encompassing multiple performers and acts.

Drag Shows are organized performances featuring multiple drag artists, often in entertainment venues, while Drag Performers are individual artists who perform within these shows. The show is the event, and the performer is the artist delivering the act. Understanding this distinction helps clarify the roles within the drag entertainment industry.

How do I get into drag shows?

To get into drag shows as a performer, start by practicing makeup, costume design, and stage presence. Build a portfolio or social media presence to showcase your talent and network with event organizers or local LGBTQ+ communities to find opportunities to perform.

Is being a drag show performer a career?

Drag show performance is considered a form of entertainment and can be a full-time or part-time career for some performers. It often involves skills in acting, makeup, costume design, and stage presence, with income coming from performances, tips, and sponsorships. Many performers also build personal brands and pursue related opportunities in media and events.

Job description

WHAT YOU'LL DO

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Landing Pages product, which builds the platform our customers use to create, host, and serve standalone web experiences - sign-up forms, preference centers, surveys, and other pages that capture first-party data directly into Braze user profiles. This includes a drag-and-drop editor and templating system, a hosting and delivery layer that serves those pages to end users at scale, APIs and integrations that write captured data back into the customer's workspace, and the reporting that shows marketers how their pages perform.

Landing Pages is a newer part of the Braze platform that is expanding into a growing set of customer use cases, so this role is as much a product growth problem as an engineering one. As the manager of this team, you'll work closely with product, design, and the team's engineers to decide what to build next, validate those bets against real usage data, and rapidly grow adoption of the channel. You will recruit, coach, and develop the team's engineers. You will help solve major engineering challenges, by guiding key architectural decisions and (in certain high-leverage cases) via the code you write. Finally, you will have broad responsibility for the team's vision, goals, and processes. We greatly value colleagues who help make us better engineers and are excited, in turn, to learn from us. If that's you, we'd love to hear from you!

WHO YOU ARE

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong track record of success, with 2+ years leading high performing teams
  • Thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility, while having the ability to dig into technical details to inform decisions
  • A strong product instinct and attention to detail, with a track record of building intuitive, high-quality user experiences
  • Experience building foundational systems at scale and spearheading software projects that significantly advanced the goals of your organization
  • Demonstrated success building, motivating, and retaining high-performing teams in high-growth environments

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $188,641 and $320,335/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $212,000 and $360,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, this role qualifies for a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that you will own a piece of our company.
