Job Title: Civil Drafter

Job Description

The Civil Drafter supports complex civil and utility projects by preparing high-quality CAD drawings, plats, and engineering documents that align with utility standards and state codes. This role focuses on underground utilities, land development, and earthwork, converting customer inputs into accurate, buildable plans while helping ensure compliance, constructability, and consistency across projects. The position supports the PLAT team and involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders and customers in a hybrid work setting.

Responsibilities

• Manage project intake by receiving work orders and project packets from customers and ensuring all required information is complete and organized.
• Utilize AutoCAD to draft, edit, and convert customer files into workable documents that align with utility standards and project requirements.
• Create new civil and utility-related drawings and plats as needed, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency across all deliverables.
• Prepare detailed engineering plans, designs, specifications, and standards for underground utilities, land development, and earthwork projects.
• Review PLAT designs to confirm they meet project requirements, utility standards, and applicable state codes and standards.
• Identify, document, and help resolve discrepancies or missing information in work orders and project documentation.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to clarify design intent, resolve design issues, and support the successful execution of projects.
• Support analysis of work orders and project packets to ensure feasibility and compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and processes within the PLAT team.

Essential Skills

• 3–5+ years of experience working with CAD software in a civil or utilities-focused environment.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting, editing, and converting customer files into utility-compliant drawings.
• Hands-on experience supporting projects involving underground utilities, land development, and earthwork (rather than building or transportation-focused work).
• Ability to prepare engineering plans, designs, specifications, and standards for civil and utility projects.
• Experience working with and applying state codes and standards to civil and utility designs.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize project intake and identify discrepancies in work orders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and customers to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Civil 3D is a plus.
• Experience with PLAT or PLAT design is a plus.
• Experience in CAD work related to underground utilities, land development, and earthwork is highly beneficial.
• Comfort working in a hybrid environment that combines office and remote work.
• Willingness to complete standard pre-employment onboarding requirements, including applicable testing as required by the client.

Work Environment

This role is based at a site in Bothell in a hybrid work environment that combines time in the office with remote work. You will work with modern CAD tools such as AutoCAD and, where applicable, Civil 3D to produce and revise drawings, plats, and engineering documents. The position supports a highly reputable energy and utilities organization and offers a structured, professional setting focused on civil infrastructure and utility projects. The contract is for 12 months with potential for extension or conversion and includes paid time off (5 days) and holiday pay (12 holidays) during the contract. The work involves typical office-based tasks using computers and CAD software, collaborating with the PLAT team and project stakeholders to deliver accurate, code-compliant designs for underground utilities, land development, and earthwork projects.

This is a Contract position based out of Bothell, WA.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
