Job description

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Shop Owner, the shop helper will be performing a variety of task including, picking up parts from local vendors, maintaining the shop and aiding the shop technicians while learning preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs in a safe, efficient, quality minded and learning the proper use of hand tools/equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

·       Assists mechanics with repairing trucks and shop equipment

·       Cleans and maintains shop equipment, parts and tools

·       Bake & Clean DPF’s (Diesel Particulate Filter) Using DPF Machine

·       Maintains Inventory of DPF Clamps and Gaskets

·       Pickup/Deliver DPF’s  

·       Maintains and monitors parts and fluid inventories

·       Performs minor equipment repairs in the field

·       Maintains shop in a clean and orderly manner

·       Tag trucks upon arrival

·       Operates various hand tools, including spray gun, sander, grinder, grease gun, hydraulic jack, DPF machine, etc.

·       Checks batteries and fluid levels in equipment and replaces or replenishes as needed; Performs lubrication and related maintenance

·       Picks up supplies and parts from vendors or suppliers as necessary.

·       Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Knowledge of basic hand and power tools; and the safe operation of the equipment used is preferred.

Skill/Ability to: perform a variety of minor mechanical repairs or preventive maintenance on diesel trucks and equipment using a variety of power and hand tools; establish and maintain effective working relationship[s with co-workers and suppliers; and maintain California driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities and good driving record.

Education

High school graduation, or its equivalent, or sufficient education to read and write, plus experience in mechanical repair work, preferably at least six months of experience working with or for a mechanic; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

Certificates & License Required

A Valid Class C California Driver’s License is required.
