EXPERIENCE ENGINEER - FULL-TIME
JOB SUMMARY
The DoSeum is seeking an energetic, team-oriented individual who will promote joyful learning and active discovery through a variety of meaningful interactions with museum Guests. The Experience Engineer will engage learners of all abilities—and their caregivers—in The Doseum Experience, fostering educational play and inquiry- based learning in the museum’s galleries. Additional duties will include: professionally addressing Guest questions and comments; troubleshooting and re-setting exhibition technology; light cleaning and resupply of exhibition spaces; selling general admission and special event tickets, as well as memberships; leading educational programming for families, school groups, and/or DoSeum camps; and documenting opportunities for improvement.
As part of the office of Gallery Facilitation amp; Experiences, the Experience Engineer role serves as a primary face and voice of the organization. Successful candidates are personable and approachable, project positive energy, present in the moment, creative, and must have strong people and problem-solving skills. They are respectful to Guests and fellow Staff. Prior experience working with young children is highly valued, as is the ability to play with confidence and without hesitation. Delivering authentic, memorable, and delightful experiences for every learner is key to the position’s success.
Reporting to the Managers of Gallery Operations, this is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position which will be paid based on the hours worked. Candidates must be available to work weekends, which include both Saturdays and Sundays, as this is a requirement of the position.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Education amp; Guest Engagement
  • Facilitate caregiver-child interactions throughout museum galleries and outdoor spaces, encouraging curiosity, exploration, and learning through play
  • Lead educational activities and program using established curriculum, including gallery-based experiences family programs, school visits, and DoSeum camps.
  • Engage learners of varying ages, abilities, learning styles by adapting facilitation techniques in real time.
  • Encourage guests to explore exhibits and materials in creative, meaningful, and safe ways.
  • Collaborate with Education and Gallery staff to stay informed on current programs, facilitation strategies, schedules, and exhibit updates.
Guest Service amp; Operations
  • Provide welcoming, inclusive, and professional service to all guests, modeling DoSeum shared language and values.
  • Staff the front desk as assigned, including selling general admission tickets, special event tickets, and memberships, and completing associated cash-handling duties.
  • Contribute to a safe, positive, and fun environment by prioritizing safety, courtesy, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  • Administer opening and closing procedures to ensure galleries and public spaces a show-ready.
  • Rotate through gallery and operational assignments based on daily needs.
  • Monitor exhibit functionality; assist with basic troubleshooting, resets, and reporting maintenance concerns.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stoked gallery spaces, including light cleaning, restocking material, and arranging props.
  • Address guest questions, concerns, and complaints using the LAST service recovery model, escalating when appropriate.
  • Support safety and cleanliness standards by addressing issues promptly and reporting concerns according to protocol.
  • Learn and utilize point of sale and exhibit maintenance systems, including Altru and Hippo.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains conduct and attendance consistent with organizational standards and expectations.
  • Serve as a collaborative, respectful team member who supports intra- and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Attend required trainings and follow all DoSeum policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
  • Travel locally as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Coursework toward or completion of an associate or bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or a related field is a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated interest in and enjoyment of working with young children and families.
  • Prior experience working with children in a structured or informal setting (e.g., camp, classroom, daycare, museum, after-school program).
  • Ability to engage positively with large groups of children, caregivers, teachers, and chaperones.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; approachable, confident, playful, and present in the moment.
  • Ability to follow established curricula, facilitation strategies, and guest service standards.
  • Basic comfort using computers (Mac or PC) and point-of-sale systems, or willingness to be trained.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and support interactive exhibits and basic technology.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 25 pounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Coursework toward or completion of an associate or bachelor’s degree in education, Child Development, STEAM, Museum Studies, Theater, Psychology, or related field.
  • Experience supporting or facilitating programs in a children’s museum, science center, classroom, camp, or informal learning environment.
  • Familiarity with play-based, inquiry-driven, or constructivist learning approaches.
  • Customer service experience in a high-volume, public-facing environment.
  • Experience with cash handling, ticketing, or point-of-sale systems.
  • Comfort assisting with hands-on exhibits or interactive technology.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly Spanish.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful guest interactions.
