Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) seeks an Apprentice Combustion Turbine Operator/Repairman at Saluda Hydroelectric Generating Plant located at the Lake Murray Dam near Columbia, SC. 

This position has the following responsibilities and expectations:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as a forklift or overhead crane.
  • Ability to learn plant systems, required to safely operate plant equipment. This includes safe startup and shutdown of Hydroelectric Turbines and all supporting systems.
  • Perform routine electrical, instrumentation and mechanical maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

This position is physically demanding, and applicant must be in good physical condition.  A successful applicant must have and be able to perform the following:

  • 2+ years of Hydroelectric Power Plant or industrial experience.
  • Heavy background in electrical knowledge is a plus
  • Technical training in maintenance and operations is a plus.
  • Frequent climbing of tall structures at extreme heights.
  • Heaving lifting at a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Work standing for prolonged periods.
  • Work outside during inclement weather if necessary.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Available to work overtime, call outs, weekends, and holidays to support outages as well as emergency and upset conditions as they occur. Occasional shift work is necessary to support plant operations.
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class D Wastewater License within the first year.
  • Must be able to operate a boat and obtain SC Boaters License.
Education Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED)  is required

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Required to obtain and maintain a Class D Wastewater License.
