What are dog watchers?

Dog watchers are individuals who care for dogs when their owners are away or unavailable. Their responsibilities typically include feeding the dogs, providing fresh water, walking them, administering medication if needed, and ensuring their general well-being. Dog watchers may work in clients’ homes, at pet care facilities, or offer dog-walking services in the local neighborhood. They play an important role in keeping pets safe, healthy, and happy while giving owners peace of mind.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Dog Watcher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dog Watcher, you need a strong understanding of basic animal care, dog behavior, and safety protocols, often supported by prior experience with pets or completion of pet care courses. Familiarity with pet tracking apps, scheduling software, and first aid for animals is typically beneficial. Patience, reliability, and effective communication with pet owners are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the safety, well-being, and happiness of the dogs in your care while building trust with clients.

What are some common challenges faced by dog watchers when caring for multiple dogs at once?

Dog watchers often manage several dogs with varying temperaments, energy levels, and needs, which can be challenging. It's important to maintain control and ensure each dog's safety, especially during group walks or playtime. Effective communication with pet owners about each dog's routines, medical needs, and behavioral quirks is key. Staying organized and attentive helps prevent conflicts between dogs and ensures a smooth, enjoyable experience for both dogs and their owners.

At Canine Cabana, we believe every dog deserves a little luxury. We’re on the hunt for a caring, detail-loving Dog Bathing Spa Technician who’s passionate about dogs and ready to make tails wag every single day.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be the magic behind the makeover—transforming scruffy pups into fresh, fabulous furballs!

  • Bathe, brush, trim, and style dogs of all breeds and personalities
  • Tackle the essentials: nail trims, ear cleaning, and coat care
  • Keep a watchful eye on each pup’s health and happiness

  • Deliver top-notch service to both dogs and their humans
  • Handle pets with patience, kindness, and confidence throughout their visit
What We’re Looking For
  • A genuine love for dogs and their parent (bonus points if you talk to them like people)
  • Knowledge of breed-specific bathing techniques—or eagerness to learn
  • Gentle handling skills and a calm, caring approach
  • Ability to stay on your feet and keep up with a busy, active day
  • Confidence working with dogs of all shapes and sizes
  • Strong communication skills with teammates and pet parents
  • Grooming experience (6+ months preferred) or formal training is a plus—but not required
Perks of Joining the Pack
  • Competitive pay
  • Health benefits
  • Paid time off + sick leave
  • 401(k) with company match
  • A fun, supportive, tail-wagging work environment
Why Canine Cabana?

Because here, it’s more than a job—it’s a community of dog lovers who care deeply about what they do. You’ll grow your skills, build relationships, and go home knowing you made a difference (and probably covered in a little fur).
