What is a dog training assistant?

Dog Training Assistants are professionals who support dog trainers in teaching dogs obedience, behavior modification, and various skills. They help set up training sessions, handle dogs, reinforce positive behaviors, and communicate with pet owners about training progress. Their role ensures a safe, structured environment for both dogs and trainers, and they often gain hands-on experience to advance their careers in animal care or dog training.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dog training assistant?

To thrive as a Dog Training Assistant, you need a basic understanding of canine behavior, patience, and an enthusiasm for working with animals, often supported by hands-on experience or entry-level certifications. Familiarity with training tools such as leashes, clickers, and positive reinforcement systems is typically required. Strong communication skills, reliability, and the ability to build rapport with both dogs and their owners are important soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities help ensure safe, effective training sessions and foster positive relationships with clients and their pets.

What are some common challenges faced by dog training assistants, and how can they be addressed?

Dog Training Assistants often encounter challenges such as handling dogs with varying temperaments, adapting to different training methods, and communicating effectively with pet owners. To address these, it's important to stay patient and observant, continuously learn from lead trainers, and practice clear, positive communication. Building rapport with both dogs and their owners helps create a supportive training environment, and seeking feedback from senior staff can enhance your skills and confidence over time.

Job description

Client Relations Assistant

Full-Time | Canine Craze

Every dog has potential. Our job is to help families discover it.
That's why every great relationship starts with the right conversation.
As our Client Experience Assistant, you'll be the trusted first point of contact for every client. You'll welcome families, answer questions, and connect them with the training and services that best fit their goals.

Why This Role Matters

At Canine Craze, we celebrate the little victories.
A puppy's first "sit."
A nervous dog's breakthrough.
A client who says, "I never thought my dog could do that."
Those moments don't happen by accident. Every member of our team contributes to them. As our Client Experience Assistant, you'll help create those moments by making every client's experience positive from the first conversation.
We're a small team where relationships matter. We support one another, celebrate successes together, and believe people do their best work when they enjoy coming to work.

A Typical Day

Every day is a little different. You'll spend your time:
Welcoming clients and their dogs.
Answering phone calls, emails, and online inquiries.
Helping families choose the training and services that best fit their goals.
Scheduling evaluations, training, daycare, and boarding services.
Maintaining accurate client and dog records.
Preparing materials that help our trainers succeed.
Keeping our reception area clean, organized, and welcoming.
Pitching in wherever the team needs an extra hand.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, communicates with confidence, and is excited to learn. As you gain experience, you'll have opportunities to take on new responsibilities and continue building your career with Canine Craze.

You'll Thrive Here If You...

Enjoy building relationships with people and the dogs that bring them through our doors.
Naturally make people feel welcome.
Take ownership instead of waiting to be asked.
Like having a place for everything and making sure nothing gets overlooked.
Celebrate the small wins because they know they lead to big breakthroughs.
Are curious, dependable, and always willing to learn.
Want more than a job. You want to be part of a team that's making a difference every day.

We'll teach you our services, our systems, and what makes the Canine Craze experience different.

Starting Pay: $15.00 per hour
Benefits include:
Health, dental, and vision insurance
Retirement plan with employer contribution
