Company Overview
P&E Constructors is an employee-owned (ESOP) mechanical and electrical construction firm executing large capital projects with deep roots in the industrial construction sector. Work Location & Travel Expectations
This role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel based on business and project needs. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; however, the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Travel for this position may reach up to approximately 90%.
Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months, depending on project duration and operational requirements. While assigned to a project away from home, eligible employees are provided per diem to assist with temporary living and travel-related expenses, in addition to a competitive base salary.
To support project deployment, mobilization assistance may be provided, which can include mileage reimbursement or other approved travel support. Employees may also receive extended weekend rotations approximately once per month, allowing additional time for travel home.
Position Overview
The Document Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate, organized, and current project documentation throughout the project lifecycle. This position manages the receipt, distribution, tracking, filing, revision control, and retention of project documents to ensure project teams have access to the most current approved information.
P&E does not self-perform engineering. Accordingly, this position does not perform engineering design, technical review, or approval of engineering documents. The Document Controller facilitates the administrative flow of documents between P&E, clients, engineering firms, vendors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the project document control system and established filing structure
  • Receive, log, distribute, track, and archive project documentation
  • Maintain current revisions of drawings, specifications, procedures, manuals, and other controlled documents
  • Ensure superseded or obsolete documents are appropriately identified and removed from active use
  • Process and track document transmittals between P&E, clients, engineering firms, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Maintain drawing, specification, submittal, and document registers
  • Track documents requiring review, response, approval, or resubmittal and communicate outstanding items to appropriate project personnel
  • Support the administrative processing and tracking of RFIs, submittals, vendor documents, and other project correspondence as assigned
  • Verify documents contain required document numbers, revision information, dates, and other administrative information before distribution
  • Upload and distribute documents through client or project document management systems
  • Maintain electronic and, when required, hard-copy project records
  • Assist project teams in locating current project documents and historical records
  • Support turnover and project closeout by compiling required documentation and final project records
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate access to controlled or sensitive project information
  • Follow client-specific document control requirements and project procedures
  • Coordinate with Quality, Construction, Project Controls, Safety, Procurement, and Project Management to maintain complete project records
  • Perform other document control and project administrative duties as assigned

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or additional administrative, construction, or technical education preferred
  • 2+ years of document control, project administration, construction administration, or related experience preferred
  • Experience in industrial, commercial, energy, manufacturing, or large construction projects preferred
  • Experience with Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud strong preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage large volumes of documents and multiple priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams
  • Experience with electronic document management or construction management systems preferred
  • Ability to learn and comply with client-specific document control systems and procedures

  • The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate's qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
