Job description

The Sun Prairie Area School District is looking for a dynamic, student-centered, and equity-focused Bilingual Teacher for its Dual Language Immersion Program for the 2026-27 School Year.ย

The Sun Prairie Experience:

Sun Prairie is a vibrant, thriving, and increasingly diverse community located in northeastern Dane County, just east of the City of Madison. Sun Prairie is known in the region for its high quality of life, its excellent parks and recreation programs, historic downtown, its exceptional public school system, and progressive approach to the development and redevelopment of the community. The City of Sun Prairie has experienced strong population growth over the last 10 years, undergoing a transformation from a relatively small community to an estimated 35,000 today.

The Sun Prairie School District is made up of over 8,500 amazing and diverse students. More than a third are students of color. Ten percent of our students speak a language other than English. Approximately thirty percent of our students are eligible to receive free and reduced lunches. Our students are deeply involved in our community, and are truly the pride of our community.ย

The Sun Prairie Area School District has earned a reputation for being an innovative and progressive school district. This reputation has been earned due to the quality of staff who serve and love our students every day. Our staff lead highly relevant, engaging, and innovative programming.ย

A close reading of the school district's mission statement will show a very important four-word phrase to this school district: "To inspire and prepare." Together, our community helped define our future. Now, we can utilize these facilities with innovative programming and exceptional staff to inspire and prepare our students in and out of the classroom.ย
In continuing our goal of meeting the needs of every child, every day our school districtย  began offering a bilingual Dual Language Program at the beginning of the 2023-24 school year with a Kindergarten cohort at two host elementary schools (Westside and Northside Elementary). As students move up to the next grade level, the Dual Language Immersion program will continue to expand upward by one grade each year until students graduate in 12th grade.ย  We offer Spanish-English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programming with a 50/50 model (50% core instruction in English, 50% core instruction in Spanish).ย  To ensure long-term stability for the program, in the 2025-26 school year, Meadow View Elementary will join Northside Elementary as the two host DLI schools. In SPASD we believe the future is bilingual.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a core subject area with additional coursework leading to a Bilingual certification
  • Valid Wisconsin teaching certificates #395,ย  #023 (ESL and Bilingual/Bicultural License), and (Elementary) or willingness to work towards becoming certified.
  • Demonstrated Spanish and English fluency (Oral and written fluency will be assessed by the Sun Prairie Area School District)
  • The Sun Prairie Area School District will work with qualified candidates who need visa sponsorship to obtain a J1 visaย  through a nationally recognized sponsorship program. In this case, the applicant must be a licensed teacher.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population preferred (racially, culturally,ย socioeconomically varied).
  • Demonstrated alignment to District Vision and Core Values

Desired Qualifications

  • The Sun Prairie Area School District actively encourages women and candidates of color to apply.ย
