Job description

Full-Stack Software Developer (React / TypeScript) - AI CoE

Position Summary:

Asymmetry Group is a small yet rapidly growing strategy consulting firm - included for the third year in a row on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing private companies in the US and named an Inc. Best Workplaces 2025 firm - that helps the worldโ€™s leading biotechnology, digital health, and medical device companies commercialize innovative therapeutics and technologies. Our clients range from early-stage Series A companies to $100B+ market cap biopharmaceutical companies. We are proud that all of the clients we serve have requested follow-on work. We cannot achieve this without an amazing team.

Asymmetry was acquired in October 2025 by the Danforth Health family of companies that collectively serve biopharmaceutical clients from inception through commercialization of products via a broad set of capabilities and offerings. To help every company in the family work smarter - and to deliver more for the clients they serve - Danforth has established an AI Center of Excellence: a shared, cross-company team that builds software and AI-enabled tools for both internal use across Danforth and as client-facing products and web applications delivered to our clients. This role sits within Asymmetry Group, but it is scoped to work across Danforth Health.

Weโ€™re seeking a full time Full-Stack Developer with strong React and TypeScript experience - including comfort working server-side with Next.js - to join the AI Center of Excellence, reporting directly to the Head of the AI Center of Excellence. This is a firm-wide role that spans all of Danforth: rather than sitting within a single business, youโ€™ll partner with teams from across the family of companies - including Asymmetry Group and our sister companies including finance, regulatory, clinical, commercial, and communications - to build two kinds of software: internal tools and AI capabilities that make our teams more effective, and client-facing products and web applications that we design, build, and deliver for our clients. Depending on the day, week, or month, you might be building an internal tool that automates a manual workflow with a large language model (LLM), developing a client-facing web application to support a breakthrough Phase 3 asset, or standing up a data dashboard that a clientโ€™s launch team relies on. Weโ€™re looking for a highly motivated, proactive builder who is passionate about applying technology and AI to healthcare.

What Can We Offer You?
  • Meaningful Work: We deliver high-quality, pragmatic work to the most innovative healthcare companies out there - we choose to work with clients that we truly believe have the potential to bring real advances to healthcare and avoid projects that are misaligned with our passion for ethical change
  • Strong Team & Culture: We foster a small, collegial organization that takes the best characteristics of consulting to create a supportive culture - we work hard and ensure our team members can integrate work & life in the way that matters most to them (e.g., hybrid work policy). Our incredible team is the backbone of what we do, and we are committed to creating a culture that supports them (and you!)
  • Growth & Development: We strive to individualize team member development. All team members have different strengths and skill sets; we tailor career progression based on your specific interests and needs, and we recognize and promote on true merit rather than anchor to fixed time periods
  • Strong Compensation: We offer industry-competitive salary and bonus, 401k, healthcare / dental / vision and a flexible time-off policy
Role Duties & Responsibilities:

Our day-to-day can involve a wide breadth of activities, roles & responsibilities can be fluid, and success will require a willingness and agility to learn quickly. The role will naturally evolve based on firm and client needs. However, the following are representative areas of responsibility where the Full-Stack Developer will play a key role:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining full-stack web applications - both internal tools used across the Danforth family of companies and client-facing products delivered to our clients - across the front end and server side using React, TypeScript, and Next.js
  • Building interactive dashboards, data visualizations, and AI-enabled features - including large language model (LLM) integrations - that turn firm and client data into clear, actionable insights
  • Writing clean, well-tested, maintainable code and helping establish the shared standards, reusable components, and best practices of the AI Center of Excellence; participating in code reviews and collaborating through Git
  • Partnering with stakeholders across Danforthโ€™s operating companies to understand their needs, and supporting internal initiatives such as improving our engineering practices and tooling, onboarding new members of the firm, and planning internal lunch & learns, etc.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline - computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 2-5 years of professional software development experience
  • Hands-on experience building full-stack web applications with React and TypeScript
  • Deep intellectual curiosity (constantly ask "why" - and then go figure it out)
  • Comfort brainstorming, implementing, and iterating solutions for loosely structured problems
  • Flexible and adaptable team player willing to play many different roles and embraces change
  • Self-starter mentality, willing to identify and take on new opportunities and challenges
  • If you donโ€™t check all the boxes but think you have what it takes, let us know, and tell us why!
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Candidates local to the Boston area (we utilize a hybrid work model based out of our office in Newton, MA with clients in Boston, Metrowest, across the US and overseas). Opportunities may exist to work out of our New York City or greater Philadelphia area office, and remote work may be an option for exceptional candidates.
  • Server-side experience with Next.js (API routes, server components, server actions)
  • Experience with our broader stack: Node.js, Tailwind CSS, testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library), CI/CD, and cloud platforms such as AWS
  • Exposure to AI/LLM APIs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI) or experience building AI-enabled features - especially valued
Compensation:

The annualized salary range for this role is between $150,000 - $175,000, plus an incentive bonus. The actual base pay offered may vary based on several factors including role-related qualifications such as skills, knowledge, total experience, and education. The role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as health benefits, 401k, etc.

FAQs Who are we looking for?
  • Developers that thrive in our AI Center of Excellence are ones who develop "safe hands" quickly by shipping reliable, well-crafted software, communicating frequently and clearly about deliverable progress, and bringing a growth mindset to consistently improve, learn, and develop.
What does a day in the life of a developer look like?
  • Team: The CoE is a new, small team - youโ€™d be one of its first dedicated engineers, working directly with the Head of the CoE, with outsized influence on our standards, stack, and product direction.
  • Staffing: You will typically be staffed on one or two projects (whether new or ongoing) that may serve a single Danforth company or the whole group, and be expected to get up to speed quickly by reviewing the existing codebase and project materials, setting up your local environment, and engaging your project team with targeted questions.
  • Building Software: A core part of your role is developing high-quality software - primarily full-stack web applications and tools built with React, TypeScript, and Next.js, for both our internal teams and our clients. To do so, youโ€™ll spend a lot of your time translating requirements into clean, maintainable code, as well as thinking through the "so what" of how the product will actually be used so it delivers real value.
  • Client Communication: Youโ€™ll support communication with clients and stakeholders by drafting updates, demos, and messages for review. Over time as a Developer, youโ€™ll take on more direct client-facing communication.
  • Meetings: You will participate in internal and client meetings, including stand-ups and planning sessions, capturing notes, key takeaways, and next steps to keep the team aligned. You are expected to actively contribute in internal-facing meetings by asking clarifying questions and sharing your perspectives, and over time, youโ€™ll drive agenda creation and internal meeting facilitation.
  • Project Management: You will support project management by tracking key tasks and milestones to help the team stay organized and aligned. You are expected to manage multiple priorities and proactively communicate progress and updates clearly to the team. Youโ€™ll be expected not only to track basic tasks but also to think critically about what is needed when and develop your POV on how our team could execute it.
  • Research: You will assist or lead ad hoc technical research - whether the team needs to evaluate a new library, framework, or approach to a tricky problem. You are expected to know how to effectively find, evaluate, and cite reputable sources and documentation should the team need them.
  • Professional Development: You will receive regular, personalized feedback to support your ongoing development.
