Job description

Gear Club Direct – Chicago, IL | In-Person

Are you the person everyone comes to when they have a question about DJ gear?

Gear Club Direct is looking for a versatile, hands-on team member who knows DJ equipment inside and out and is comfortable helping wherever needed. This isn't just a sales position. We're looking for someone who can work with customers, handle gear, help with orders and inventory, assist with rentals, and jump into the day-to-day operations of a busy DJ and professional audio store.

Strong DJ equipment knowledge is a MUST. You should already be comfortable with controllers, mixers, CDJs/media players, turntables, speakers, DJ software, connections, and troubleshooting common setup issues.

What You'll Do

  • Assist customers in-store and help them choose the right DJ, audio, and related equipment
  • Confidently answer technical questions and recommend equipment based on a customer's setup, experience, and budget
  • Demonstrate DJ equipment and explain features, differences, compatibility, and setup
  • Help troubleshoot basic equipment and connectivity issues
  • Process sales and assist with customer orders
  • Help prepare, check, and organize rental equipment
  • Pick, pack, and process online orders
  • Receive, stock, organize, and maintain inventory
  • Keep the showroom and work areas clean and organized
  • Help update products, inventory, and information in our computer systems
  • Assist with shipping, receiving, and warehouse tasks when needed
  • Stay current on new DJ products, releases, software, and industry trends
  • Jump in wherever needed to help keep daily operations running smoothly

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive knowledge of DJ equipment is required
  • Hands-on experience with professional DJ gear
  • Strong understanding of brands and products from Pioneer DJ/AlphaTheta, Rane, Denon DJ, Technics, Numark, and similar manufacturers
  • Familiarity with Rekordbox, Serato DJ, and other common DJ software
  • Understanding of audio connections, signal flow, powered speakers, mixers, and basic PA setups
  • Comfortable using computers, email, web-based systems, and Microsoft Excel
  • Organized and able to switch between different tasks throughout the day
  • Comfortable handling and moving DJ/audio equipment
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, responsible, and willing to learn
  • Able to work independently while also being part of a small team

Retail experience is a plus, but DJ equipment knowledge matters more to us.

Who Would Be a Great Fit?

This position is ideal for a DJ, gear enthusiast, or someone who has worked around professional DJ/audio equipment and wants a job where every day is a little different.

If you only know DJ equipment from watching videos or casually using a controller, this probably isn't the right position. We're looking for someone who can confidently talk gear with beginners and experienced professional DJs.

At Gear Club Direct, you'll work directly with the equipment, customers, rentals, online orders, and the day-to-day operation of a real DJ and pro-audio business.
