Job Summary:

This position is accountable for the safe, efficient, timely, and courteous delivery of one or more energy products: fuel oil, diesel fuel, off-road diesel fuel, gasoline, and propane. In quieter times of business, drivers also assist in meter reading, tank setting, fleet reconditioning, and maintenance of company-owned and operated properties.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently delivers distillates and propane as directed by the distribution office team, observing all applicable safety practices and company regulations in the performance of duties.
  • Performs "return to service" duties that include leak checks and relighting of appliances (propane), and prime/starts (oil).
  • Maintains a daily respectful, timely dialogue with the office staff and Distribution Manager/Operations Manager.
  • Inspects and maintains delivery trucks, including:
    • Thorough, regular pre-trip inspections as required by state and Federal agencies (DOT, FMCSA), to be documented along with any other truck issues in the company's fleet management software.
    • Paperwork (e.g. inspection stickers/reports, registrations, hazmat permits, insurance cards, shipping papers).
    • Regular interior and exterior cleaning.
    • Monthly meter creep testing (propane).
    • Daily emergency shutoff testing (propane).
  • Maintains and submits accurate reports and customer payments.
  • Participates in regular safety and operations meetings, proposing ideas for improving delivery processes.
  • Executes on the safety strategy defined by the company management team.
  • Uses Personal Protective Equipment when applicable (e.g. masks, goggles, face shields, gloves, and boots).
  • Provides customer service support for delivery matters as necessary, either in person or by involving other members of the distribution team.
  • Keeps the office team and Distribution Manager/Operations Manager informed on delivery or customer situations that arise.
  • Assists in off-season tasks such as fleet reconditioning, meter reading, tank setting, and landscaping/maintenance of company properties.
  • Executes other tasks and duties assigned by the Distribution Manager/Operations Manager.

Requirements

Technical Requirements:

  • Three or more years of petroleum or propane delivery experience preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License, Class A or B, with hazmat, tanker, and air brake endorsements.
  • Valid DOT medical certificate.
  • Ability to drive a standard-shift transmission.
  • Ability to pass company-provided drug test, alcohol test, and physical.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, overtime, and on call shifts.
  • Experience with regulatory agency requirements (e.g. DOT, HazMat, OSHA, FMCSA).
  • Licensing and certifications as applicable (e.g. CETP delivery modules for propane).
  • Proficient in the use of Android tablets and web-based software applications.

FLSA Status:

This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Electronic timekeeping of all hours worked is required.


Job Environment:


Delivery generally requires the following duties to be performed, without restrictions: the ability to push or pull up to 100 pounds; bend; lift up to 25 pounds; kneel, squat, climb, stand, walk, sit, reach, drive, perform repetitive motions, and exercise fine motor skills. Hearing and vision must meet standards for Commercial Driver's licensing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
