A Distribution Tech, short for Distribution Technician, is responsible for maintaining and operating equipment that distributes electricity, water, gas, or other essential utilities. Their duties typically include inspecting distribution lines, troubleshooting issues, performing repairs, and ensuring that all systems are running safely and efficiently. Distribution Techs may work in the field or at substations, and they often respond to service outages or emergencies to restore normal operations. This role requires technical knowledge, attention to safety protocols, and sometimes physical labor.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a distribution tech?

To thrive as a Distribution Tech, you need a strong understanding of inventory management, warehouse operations, and basic logistics, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and forklift certification is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for excelling in this position. These abilities ensure efficient, safe, and accurate handling of materials, which is vital for maintaining smooth supply chain operations.

What are some common challenges faced by distribution techs, and how can they be addressed on the job?
