Job Overview

Nova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking a Water Plant Operator to operate, monitor, maintain, and repair industrial water and wastewater treatment systems supporting NASA facilities. This position is responsible for the treatment, storage, distribution, and quality monitoring of potable and industrial water systems while ensuring compliance with operational, environmental, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

  • Perform startup, functional operation, shutdown, maintenance, and repair of industrial water systems.
  • Operate and control equipment used in the storage, treatment, generation, distillation, monitoring, processing, and distribution of potable and industrial water.
  • Regulate water flow through supply mains, storage tanks, pumps, valves, and distribution systems to maintain required water levels and system pressures.
  • Operate and control wastewater treatment and sewage disposal systems, including filter screens, grit chambers, clarifiers, digesters, sedimentation basins, sludge systems, and settling tanks.
  • Perform chemical handling, mixing, and application activities in accordance with work orders and established procedures.
  • Operate demineralizers, regeneration systems, tank farm pumps, solvent recovery equipment, and other process equipment.
  • Operate process analysis equipment, including gas chromatography and atomic absorption equipment.
  • Collect samples, perform required testing, maintain operational logs, and complete all required records and regulatory documentation.
  • Perform minor maintenance on pumps, hoses, chemical handling equipment, and related systems.
  • Respond to chemical spills or leaks by operating pumps, hose nozzles, chemical mixing equipment, and decontamination equipment to clean affected areas.
  • Direct and instruct lower graded employees in work assignments, chemical handling procedures, equipment operation, and tank cleaning activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain accurate operating records, reports, and documentation related to equipment operation, water treatment, wastewater processing, and chemical usage.Read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, manufacturer manuals, and technical documentation.Ensure quality and completeness of work while meeting operational schedules.Work effectively in a team environment while maintaining a professional demeanor that promotes productivity and cooperation.Follow all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while handling chemicals and operating plant equipment.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Minimum four (4) years of related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical handling procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, blueprints, manufacturer's manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all certifications required for the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain the required NASA badge.

Preferred:

  • Experience operating industrial water treatment, wastewater treatment, or utility plant systems.
  • Experience operating process analysis equipment such as gas chromatography or atomic absorption instrumentation.
  • Experience working in an industrial, government, or NASA facility.

Working Conditions:

  • Involves disagreeable working conditions in the form of unpleasant odors, dampness, noise, oil, grease and chemicals; epecially when working in the immediate area of raw sewage

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires moderate physical effort when turning valves, etc., or making repairs.
  • Continuous mental/ visual attention required when checking and controlling water and sewage equipment and machinery, and chemical additions.
