About The Role:

As a Lead Engineer, you will provide leadership and senior-level engineering/technical expertise on complex utility distribution projects. 

Some of the main responsibilities will be to ensure the team is meeting client requirements; both quality and schedule deadlines, as well as ensuring the team is engaged and their input is valued. We want to inspire our team members to produce at the level of excellence for which Pickett is known.

This role will require you to be hands-on and manage, prepare, review and/or provide guidance for distribution design utilizing client standards which may include, but not limited to, overhead and underground distribution facilities, distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement and new feeder design.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Supervise a team of engineers, technicians, and drafters
  • Communicate clear expectations, goals, and vision
  • Manage the performance of the team and delegate project work
  • Motivate, coach and mentor team members
  • Manage projects, ensure quality of work and on-time delivery
  • Review and approve engineering design submittals
  • Develop lasting relationships with clients
  • Estimate projects and develop proposals

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification (preferred)
  • 10+ years of related overhead and underground distribution engineering experience serving the electric utility industry (required)
  • Strong understanding of electrical design including the selection and installation of conductors, insulators, switchgear, circuit breakers, fuses and other distribution equipment (required)
  • Possess knowledge of CSA/IEC/NESC standards and codes and major utility engineering standards
  • Knowledge of overhead systems design and the use of PLS-CADD (preferred)
  • Understanding of structural, civil and geotechnical aspects of distribution engineering (preferred)
  • Strong project management skills and experience (preferred)
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and always obey safety regulations
  • Ability to be a self-starter and thrive in an unstructured, varied and deadline- driven work environment
  • Strong ability to collaborate with team members and peers in the electrical utility industry
  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Demonstrated verbal and technical writing skills
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
