Internship Start Date: The internship program begins on May 3rd 2027, and concludes on August 13th 2027. Due to the structured nature of the program, onboarding activities, and cohort experience, candidates are expected to be available for the full internship term. Availability for the entire program duration is required to successfully participate in the internship.

About the Role
Join a dynamic and forward-thinking investment team as an intern and gain hands-on experience in one of several specialized areas: Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), Structured Solutions, Alternative Investments, Core Active Investments or Client Portfolio Management. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced portfolio managers and researchers, contributing directly to the development and execution of data-driven investment strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with recurring and ad hoc reporting for the investment team.
  • Help build, update, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data files used to track investment, market, or business activity.
  • Prepare charts, tables, and summaries that communicate insights clearly for different audiences.
  • Review reports for accuracy, consistency, and completeness before distribution.
  • Support the team in improving the structure and usability of existing reporting processes.
  • Gather, organize, and summarize data from internal and external sources.
  • Assist in preparing investment research summaries, briefing notes, and materials for portfolio managers, analysts, or broader team discussions.
  • Support ad hoc analysis related to market trends, product themes, competitor activity, or portfolio positioning.
  • Help identify key insights, risks, and considerations from research findings.
  • Develop and enhance Excel-based tools, templates, and macros to improve team efficiency.
  • Support the development of practical workflow improvements that reduce duplication, improve accuracy, and save time.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, preferably in business, finance, economics, mathematics, data analytics, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in investments, financial markets, and asset management.
  • Strong Excel skills, with experience using formulas, pivot tables, and data organization.
  • Experience with VBA, macros, Power Query, Python, Power BI, or other automation and analytics tools would be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Curious, proactive, and comfortable asking thoughtful questions.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
