What is a distribution designer?

Distribution Designers are professionals who plan and design electrical power distribution systems. They create layouts for power lines, transformers, and other equipment to ensure reliable electricity delivery to homes, businesses, and other facilities. Their work involves analyzing site conditions, following safety regulations, and coordinating with engineers, utility companies, and construction teams. Distribution Designers play a crucial role in modern infrastructure by making sure electrical systems are efficient, safe, and meet regulatory standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a distribution designer?

To thrive as a Distribution Designer, you need a solid understanding of electrical distribution systems, technical drawing skills, and typically an associate's or bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Proficiency with CAD software, GIS mapping tools, and familiarity with relevant industry standards such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help in collaborating with clients, engineers, and field crews. These competencies ensure the accurate and safe design of electrical distribution networks, supporting reliable power delivery and project efficiency.

What are some common challenges distribution designers face when coordinating with field crews and project managers?

Distribution Designers often coordinate closely with field crews and project managers to ensure that electrical distribution plans are practical and meet project requirements. A common challenge is translating technical designs into actionable steps that field crews can execute, especially when unexpected site conditions arise. Communication is key, as designers must clearly convey design intent and quickly adapt plans based on feedback from the field. Successful Distribution Designers are proactive in addressing issues and adept at collaborating with multiple stakeholders to keep projects on track.

Job description

About KREWE
KREWE is an independent, high-fashion eyewear brand rooted in the vibrant culture and boundless creativity of our hometown, New Orleans - and now proudly headquartered in both New Orleans and New York City. Since our launch in 2013, KREWE has grown into a dynamic brand celebrated for its distinctive, handcrafted sun and optical frames that reflect a deep commitment to quality, individuality, and design.
In 2022, we opened the doors to our NYC headquarters in the heart of the Meatpacking District, building a second home for the brand that brings New Orleans' culture, creativity, and energy to one of the world's most iconic design capitals. Our presence now spans brick-and-mortar boutiques, mobile retail concepts, and a thriving e-commerce platform - alongside distribution through premier independents and top national retailers. Celebrated for our unique approach to design, KREWE has cultivated a loyal following among style-conscious consumers and influential tastemakers.
As we continue to expand, we're looking for passionate, driven, and innovative individuals to join our talented team. At KREWE our work is fast-paced, collaborative, and deeply mission-driven. Our people are high-performing and ambitious - not just about hitting goals, but about building something that's original, culturally rooted and globally resonant. We are currently searching for an Eyewear Designer to expand the department's design capacity while leading its understanding of future product, color, and trend opportunity. This individual will carry that point of view through product completion, coordinating input from across the design team rather than generating it alone. This role is based in our New Orleans Headquarters with periodic travel to New York.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Supports the end-to-end design and development of new products, from concept through production.
  • Researches trends, color, materials, and consumer insights to support the identification of future product opportunities.
  • Develops seasonal color palettes and product concepts aligned with the brand's design direction.
  • Owns the design and development of non-frame products, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to quality standards.
  • Creates clear design briefs and coordinates cross-functional input throughout the product development process.
  • Partners closely with Marketing to develop products that support campaign, merchandising, and channel needs.
  • Prepares sketches, renderings, specifications, and presentation materials to communicate design intent.
  • Collaborates with Product Development, Sourcing, and external vendors to refine designs and resolve production challenges.
  • Maintains organized product documentation, samples, and development timelines.
  • Supports the Senior Product Designer in building a consistent, scalable product design process while contributing fresh ideas and creative solutions.

Requirements:
  • 2-6 years of eyewear development experience, with demonstrated forecasting and merchandising judgement.
  • Experience with Adobe suite preferred
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and drive.
  • Highly organized and proactive in creating and maintaining processes and systems.
  • Result driven, detail oriented individual, with an ability to work independently in a high-performance environment.
  • Focus on delivering individual goals that ladder up to overall company goals.
  • As part of the design and decision process, comfort with trying on frames and documenting fit through modeling of the product.

Benefits and Perks:
  • Competitive wage
  • Group health plans: health, vision and dental insurance
  • Welfare benefits: life, ad&d, supplemental voluntary coverage
  • FSA Plan & HSA Program
  • 401(K) Investment Options
  • Adoption Assistance, EAP, Commuter Benefits
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Quarterly Cultural Spend
  • Ongoing Training and Development, an Educational Allowance
  • 10 paid holidays and Paid Time Off accrual
  • KREWE employee quarterly frame allowance (of course!)

We are proud to provide equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants without discrimination or retaliation because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, pregnancy or any other protected characteristic as established by applicable local, state, or federal law.
