The Salt Lake City Operating Control Center (ROCC) is currently seeking a DG (Distributed Generation) Control Room Operator to monitor the operation of a large renewable asset Distributed Generation portfolio across various US regions, particularly, California and the North East. The current portfolio is mainly comprises of PV sites and a few Solar + Battery installation. Under limited supervision of a Control Room Team Lead, the DG Control Room Operator will monitor sites, site equipment, dispatch maintenance support, and analyze electronic data. In the future, there will be cross-training opportunities to provide control room services on the utility scale sites.
The successful candidate will have experience in control room operations, the power (or similar) industry, and demonstrated ability to work in high performing teams under limited supervision.
This position involves remotely monitoring sites in various states from our ROCC located in Salt Lake Cit, UT. This position typically works a standard 8-hr shift, M-F; and requires weekend support as needed.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of a growing fleet of DG-scale solar assets
  • Monitor portfolio via SCADA system for asset faults, errors, alarms, site underperformance and notify/dispatch appropriate parties if faults cannot be reset/cleared.
  • Communicate with and dispatch field O&M personnel for troubleshooting site equipment.
  • Coordinate outage support and energy isolation with field O&M personnel.
  • Interact frequently with cross-functional teams across the AES organization and with other external organizations.
  • Create and track corrective maintenance tickets in AES' work management systems (CMMS).
  • Contribute to the development of operating procedures incorporating all requirements from PPA's, IA's and any relevant Functional Entities.
  • Assist in the onboarding and integration of new generation assets.
  • Participate in safety activities including weather monitoring and routine & emergency response communications.
  • Interact with customers and Performance Engineers on issues related to asset performance and reliability.
  • Record information such as fault time, fault code, and operational actions taken while on shift.
  • Maintain logbooks within compliance with industry standards and best practices.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • 2+ years' experience in control center operations, preferably in the power industry
  • 2+ years in the Power Generation (or similar) Industry (Power Plant or Renewable Operations, I&C, Field Maintenance, Electrician, Power Plant operations, or Military Operations)
  • Familiarity with electrical substation safety protocol, equipment, and operations
  • Competency in plant processes, electrical and SCADA systems
  • Ability to strictly follow operating procedures, without exception
  • Familiarity with the maintenance and operations of solar and Battery Energy Storage generation assets
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to manage critical situations
  • Willingness to undergo regular training to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations
  • Reliable, punctual and capable of being trusted with significant taskings while maintaining integrity while unsupervised
  • Ability to thrive within a small, agile and fast-growing team
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Able to work effectively under pressure with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to function in a high-paced environment
  • Ability to remain calm and collective during stressful situations
  • Experience with documentation control systems: SharePoint, Docushare, SAP, etc.

  • Familiarity with LOTO practices, Electric Switchgear switching, & Electrical Isolations experience preferred.
