Chemical Operator – 2nd & 3rd Shift Wanted! (M-Th 4x10 hour schedule)

Salary range is $24.00+ per hour, based on experience, plus shift differential pay, with an excellent personal time off policy and 401(k) and Profit-Sharing!

About the Job

GFS Chemicals is seeking a Chemical Operator to join our Inorganic Division at our McKinley Avenue location. The Chemical Operator is responsible for performing fascinating processes to manufacture chemicals used in automotive, pharmaceuticals, electronics, agrochemical, and energy commercial applications. You will learn multiple work centers over time allowing a changing work environment each day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture products as directed by management and chemical preps
  • This includes loading reactors, running reactions, unloading reactors & dryers, coordinating with distillation and quality control, and packaging of finished product
  • Follow safety protocols and adhere to all safety regulations in the handling and storage of chemicals
  • Follow all environmental regulations and procedures for chemical waste disposal
  • Conduct routine housekeeping to maintain a clean and organized work area
  • May need to perform minor maintenance repairs and routine inspections
  • Properly record and maintain accurate documentation of production activities, including batch records, log books and equipment performance records
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting and implementing process improvements
  • Operate and navigate the automation control system to perform the following functions
  • Start, transfer, and complete a chemical process
  • Monitor the process for fluctuations with flow rates, pH level, temperature, and volume
  • Respond and resolve alarms


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3+ years of prior industrial/manufacturing experience preferred
  • Previous work experience in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred
  • Previous work experience with hazardous chemicals preferred


  • Core Skills:
  • Ability to drive a forklift after training
  • Ability to navigate, control, and read instructions with an automation control system
  • Good organizational and housekeeping practices
  • Problem solving and analytical math skills including metrics & basic algebra
  • Ability to write numbers and letters legibly
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Maintains a positive attitude toward work and others
  • Must be safety conscious
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions
