Summary/Objective

The controls technician represents CMS Controls by serving as the direct customer contact and is responsible for all service-related controls tasks. These tasks include spot / emergency service calls, preventive maintenance, and small repair projects. Controls technicians work closely with the dispatcher and their team leader for daily assignments and weekly scheduling.


In this position, you will establish and maintain a positive relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers. In doing so, you will utilize effective oral and written communication skills via phone, computer, and face to face. Job stress will range from moderate to extreme, with an average day being moderately stressful.

Essential Functions

1. Perform controls systems support and troubleshooting if various product lines

1. Typical product lines include: Distech, Siemens, Honeywell, Niagara, and Trane

2. This list is not conclusive, service technicians will often come across legacy systems requiring diagnostics and support

2. Perform controls preventive maintenance

3. Remotely support controls customers along with mechanical service providers

4. Safely perform emergency controls service visits to CMS Controls customers as well as new customers

5. Complete all required electronic paperwork in a timely and accurate manner; this includes Exit Reports for both start-ups and preventive maintenance

6. Communicate regularly with the controls Team Lead for daily / weekly assignments

7. Utilize the controls team leader for assistance on quality control, process, and technical issues

8. Perform accurate sales surveys to assist controls projects team on bids and scope generation

9. Maintain truck stock of general electrical equipment and tools for maximum efficiency

10. Ability to work overtime along with overnight work if requested by controls management staff

11. Participate in on-call technician rotation schedule this includes nights, weekends and holidays.

12. Support CMS Controls financial goals and principles

13. Always conform with CMS Controls policies and procedures

14. Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions

15. Always exhibit professional conduct, whether at the job site or driving company vehicles

16. Maintain any necessary licenses or certifications which may apply

17. Attend required department meetings

18. Attend company or vendor training as required

19. Work with and train any CMS Controls helpers/apprentices assigned to your job team

20. Complete and build on your Controls Technician Skill Set Tree (Evaluation to be provided by your manager)

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

The controls technicians work in mostly in commercial buildings, office buildings, schools, hospitals, government buildings and factories. The worksites may be very hot or cold due to the heating and cooling systems that are to be repaired may not be working properly and because some parts of these systems are located outdoors. Working in cramped spaces and during irregular hours is common. Ability to climb ladders to access roof top units will be needed.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


This position is moderately physical and requires regular use of PCs, walking, electrical tools, and networking equipment. Although most controls technicians work indoors, some work may be outdoors. At times, work may be in awkward or cramped/tight spaces and involve working on a PC.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, with typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM hours. Overtime and irregular hours are frequent.


Travel

Daily travel to CMS Controls locations in the greater Atlanta, GA area is required


Requirements

Required Education and Experience

1. Have a high school diploma or GED

2. At least 18 years old

3. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in a drug free workplace

4. Possess a clean driving record and a current driver's license

5. Strong steady work history with 3+ years minimum performing building controls service / installation

6. Operating knowledge of Windows and PC functions; this includes navigating Windows file system, installing software, and using a multi-meter


Preferred Education and Experience

1. Associates degree

2. Experience in the all or one of the following systems

  • Niagara
  • Distech
  • Honeywell
  • JCI
  • Siemens
  • Trane

3. Familiarity with IT systems

4. OSHA 30 certification
